Mr Bridger
Sound of the suburbs
This is a long shot but I'm trying to trace or contact anyone with the surname Briggs who lives in Brighton, Sussex or originates from this area and usually NSC is a broad audience to spread the word.
Last week I received an email through Ancestry regarding a great uncle of mine who fought in the First World War and died at the battle of Fromelles. If anyone is not familiar with the battle it took place on July 19th 1916 and was a joint assault by the British & Australians. https://www.awmlondon.gov.au/battles/fromelles
My Gt uncle, Henry Francis Briggs emigrated to Australia form Brighton in 1912 and joined the AIF in 1914 to go on to fight at Gallipoli and then on to the Western front, where he went missing in action at Fromelles. The AIF had over 5500 casualties in one night and Henry was one of them.
In 2009 mass graves were uncovered at Pheasant Wood near Fromelles and a long process of identified the bodies began. They uncovered 250 Australian soldiers and to date they've identified 166 through DNA. https://fromelles.info/the-search-for-the-missing/the-search-continues/
They've now contacted me being a relative, saying they think they have identified Henry's remains but are looking for a male relative to come forward to try and prove this through DNA.
His/our family originate from Sussex especially around Slaugham & Brighton, so as I say its a long shot but would be grateful if anyone does know someone (male) called Briggs to pm me.
Many thanks
