My first thoughts from reading that article was that the developers are endeavouring to turn that area into one massive pedestrianised precinct - pretty much in keeping with every other town in the country. Utter din though he can be, I do agree with Keith Taylor there. We could do with something a bit more imaginative than that.
Perhaps we could have Nibble's much vaunted Water Park there?
There are only so many ways to polish a turd - and London Road falls into that bracket. Short of bulldozing the entire street - and it costing BILLIONS, Tesco will be moving in very shortly I feel...

I'm not convinced that the council will let that one through. The Sainsbury's project took yonks to go through (about six or seven years). Can't see the Council allowing a Tesco to go there as well. If nothing else, it will attract more cars - something the council doesn't want.
Just as a small point, I wouldn't mind seeing a market not dissimilar to Borough Market - maybe a bigger version of the current Open Market - incorporated in there somehow.
I agree that something more imaginative needs to be done with it however I think it would help if there were a decrease in cars and a revamp.
The Open Market is shite but if you could increase it's size and make it better that would be quality.
It's weird you say that. I took my first walk for ages through there this morning. The fish stall, cheese stall, greengrocers and meat stall all look as though they sell fantastic products, and as a strong advocator of 'support your local business', I really ought to try and get there more often to buy their food.
However, the problem was that, as good as the stalls were, there was only one of each of them. Most of the other units were closed and the whole place looked a bit forlorn.
This is the long-winded way of saying I agree with you Les.
What we don't need is another bloody Tesco killing off the shops already on London Rd.
I think a big department store like John Lewis would help the area greatly.
somebody on the argus website says it isn't as bad as other similar streets in the uk ...
well having personal experience of living in Burnley for a few months i can tell you that london road is EASILY as rough as that ...
it makes gillingham look like f@ckin bluewater!
