London Road even too pikey for Aldi

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I am not sure it can get any worse! It would have had a knock on effect and further invesment...probably.

They really need to do something drastic with the area. I was walking back from the Spielgetent (sp?) last night and it is the most depressing zone. New England Quarter (and most regeneration projects) might be a bit bland, but a vast improvement.

Good, would have made it worse than it already is.

Could be a GREAT shopping street, and will be one day when the New Dormitory Town Dwellers look beyond the fifty yard commute to the stationand their London jobs. Long as the ever-pathetic council refuse to fully pedestrianise it, London Road will suffer. But anybody smart can see that it's the street of the future round these parts. HUGE ex-shops down there, and the local inbred ferals are being driven out by good-looking, hard-working POLES. Despite the council, London road will one day be a DECENT place to shop. Soon as they divert the traffic through some even shitter place that we don't have to even look at. One day we'll be able to wal;k down the entire length of it in the middle of the ex-road, and there will no longer be the most shameful of the shameful - a security guard outside Poundstretcher. Jeez! Send more POLES! QUICK!

Thing is, whenever I was in Brighton, I hated it.

Now I don't think it is THAT bad. Sure it is a bit run down but people are talking about it like it is Elephant and Castle ffs. Look at that, and London Road seems alot better.

I think a plan to regenerate it would be excellent and shouldn't be stopped by political inertia. If you look at some of the buildings on the street, they are actually really nice, especially the Co-op building.

I mean, if they have managed to improve St James Street, then London Road should be a doddle.

Thing is, it'll NEVER be an initiative from our docile council. Has to come from private investors. And they have to actually LOOK at the place before deciding to set up a combined Tanning Salon And Art Gallery - right in the heart of Wino City, opposite St Peters, and next door to the Purple Tin Heaven that is the steps of Dominos Pizzas. I mean, WHAT WERE THEY thinking of, other than the BN1 postcode that covers a multitude of sins. They obviously never clapped eyes on the 'hood before they pissed their investment up the wall.

Hoping to visit Eastern Eye (five doors along the road from The Branch Tavern) for a taste of their Contemporary Eastern Cuisine. Tho has to be said, don't much fancy their chances of still being here by the end of the year. Our fault, not theirs.

.

Private investors? I reckon there needs to be a bit of good old INTERVENTION. A manager for London Road and a clear criteria of what needs to be done, buildings need to be cleared up so they are more attractive to be rented, general issues that will be better solved if they are brought together.

But I heard part of the reason redevelopment is being held back is because the company that owns a lot of the property on London Road also own the Anston House by Preston Park and were doing nothing with the London Road properties to get back at the council for not accepting some of their more OTT proposals for the Anston site.

I'm sure there's multi-kickbacks going on in there, and many people, possibly including many serving councillors, rubbing their hands in GLEE. London Road WILL come good, there's too many grand old buildings and potential office space for it not to. Tho the council as always is not up to the task of having any kind of VISION for the place. Oh well, it'll sort itself out. Might take five years. might take fifty years. Who cares?

Areas like London Road could do with a proper ballsy politican to grab the situation by the scruff of the neck, a Brightonesque Ken Livingstone as it were.

Nothing a f***ing great WALL built at either end couldn't cure. Patently obvious that the thing to do is pedestrianise the fucker. But our council have no more impetus to do that than they have to save the sad little bandstand on Hove seafront. Seriously, I DESPISE these people. They are not worthy. Fact.

That bandstand is a bit pathetic really, was a major rallying point for the Tories in 2007. One year on and they are exactly the same point Burgess and his lot were, "secured lottery money" but nothing being done.

It's so damned stupid.

Actually it would be pretty damn DECENT if instead of sponsoring an Abion player, NSC all chipped in to SAVE THE BANDSTAND. Show up the council for the bunch of self-serving indolent c unts they are and always have been round these parts. Reckon a couple of dozen volunteers and a lick of paint would just about do it
