I'm sure when I was growing up the were always just called "The Orient". Wasn't the Leyton bit added in the early '90s?

They were originally Leyton Orient. They changed the name to The Orient and then changed it back again.

I admire what Hearn has achieved in boxing, snooker and darts but he appears to be hitting a brick wall in football and I'm not surprised. Football has tribalism and history. It's emotive. The concept of London Orient will not work. It's hard enough to get people out to watch good football; Orient's level is garbage, and has been for all of my 44 years.

And anyway, history shows that going down the "London" name route is the kiss of death: last time I looked London Wasps were about to be evicted from their Wycombe home, London Irish are fighting relegation in Reading, London Welsh are playing in Oxford, the London Broncos have won precisely f*** all and the London Monarchs American Football Team sunk without trace.

No. I was referring to post 11, where someone suggests the name London Olympic, as you did. I presumed that you couldn't have seen that, seeing as you suggested the name as if it was your idea.

Normally I'd say a club should never change their name, but Orient have changed their's so much already I say go for it.

I think, "Super Sparkly London Orient" has a nice ring to it.

Football clubs, like pubs, should never have name changes.

Agree on both counts, in fact there should be a law against it.
