10 o'clock news on. Man U protest is the lead story. In a pandemic.

Anyone who can't see the value of the direct action isn't trying hard enough.
This. The United fans have wanted the Glaziers out for years. Other fans even some on here berated the fans and thought they would just suck it up eventually and toe the party line. Although support for the club & team is apparent the feeling of resentment towards their American owners has increased. The last straw was the participation in the Euro super league. Yes we can all say lawful ways are the only way to protest but the action of the United fans today has made headline news, news the Glaziers will not like to hear. The acquisition of a mega bucks football conglomerate that has truly lost the backing of its supporters becomes less attractive to sponsors, investors and subscribers. I would imagine the Glaziers will be shocked by this direct action. If they dismiss today actions they will run the risk the momentum may gather and rightly or wrongly these scenes may play out at matches when fans are introduced back into the game.

This.

The conversion of the Goldstone to cash for Archer happened. Three point deduction notwthstanding. Archer didn't give a flying ****.

The best way to check whether you have won is to check your winnings.

The wildly different two Goldstone sale values, x months and worlds apart, were the dead giveaway.

That was just the opening.

We pressed the publicity button at every opportunity - and that was of course before wall-to-wall Sky Sports tv. The Euros 96 was a big thing for the FA and that's why David Davis stepped in to urge change and support from the FA for CEDR talks. My message to all MUFC & LFC fans looking to change ownership is to use every PEACEFUL opportunity to get your message across. Be patient, engage with influencers - use social media, and never give up. We won our war and no-one was remotely interested in Division 3 BHAFC - and we didn't have social media & Sky Sports etc. Do the SWOT analysis and read Build a Bonfire - that's the way to change things. Proud of what we did and how we did it - UTA. Fans United will never be defeated.

I agree that it's publicity that will keep it front page news but the moment a minority resort to violence then the papers, like it or not, will revert to reporting the stereotypical 'football hooligan'. In our case it was a couple of crossbars broken but today a Policeman was slashed in the face with a bottle. That will detract from the message getting across.

What was crucial, if memory serves me, is that once the articles of association were changed back, Archer couldn't profit from the club going under so was in his interests to sell. He was a ruthless business man, he only cared about the money.

We need to mount a protest in favour of Tony Bloom.

"What do we want"
"Fan ownership"
"When do we want it..."

..."well actually we've been fan owned for over 10 years.
In that time a massive personal financial outlay has been spent on the club.
He even put money into the club, the season it broke even.
Because of fan ownership the club hasn't put a foot wrong in local and national issues.
All the while maintaining it's closeness to the community, making supporters incredibly proud and grateful..

...Now"

The 4th stanza got away from me and might need a little polish.

How many of the 92 clubs are run by greedy owners? For that matter, how many of the 20 EPL clubs have fans who want to see the back of their owners? I'd hazard a guess that there are three in the EPL who vociferously want to get rid of their owners and the common denominator is the three are owned by Americans.

The football authorities need to bring in rules that will prevent this happening again however, bearing in mind the EPL had no contingency plans for any situation where a season may get curtailed, I'm not hopeful they'll have much success.

Liverpool fans don’t in the main want to see the back of FSG. Pre ESL, virtually none did.

Whereas:
Ashley - despised
Lewis/Levy - despised. Although beating the EPL basement club will ease that tonight.
Gold/Sullivan - hated.

I think it's difficult to compare our situation with Man U as we were in the lower leagues and hadn't got a pot to p!ss in, and whilst I know Man U are saddled with debt they seem to have a lot of cash to throw about.

I mean it wasn't EASY for us to get rid of Archer/Bellotti - by any means - but I think it'll be harder for Man U. The Glazers are even more remote than Archer was, and spectator income is presumably a much lower % of income than it was for us.

As someone else has said it's probably only by getting games called off will they be able to hack off the real sources of income - TV companies and (eg) Sky subscribers. Tough ask after today.

As for the value of the York pitch invasion to our cause I remember opinions were pretty divided at the time...and they obviously still are! But whatever else it did I'm sure it did a lot to raise the profile of what was going on at Brighton. Sometimes you need to do stuff like that to get noticed.

Alan Shearer saying that the protesters breaking in and getting games abandoned are wrong. PL issuing a statement that fans have many avenues to complain. Tell me, how is that going for Newcastle?

Ashley - Not despised enough to do anything meaningful in the last 10+ years to oust him.
Lewis/Levy - Not despised when winning and opening The Armitage Shanks arena.
Gold/Sullivan - Hated - but not so much this season.

You've just calcuated how much you've spent on sweets in the ESL concourse again, haven't you?

This, you don’t go on strike at 3 a.m. when everyone is in bed. You strike when it affects the maximum amount of people. This gets you maximum leverage.

Not quite sure I agree. The vast majority of 'fans' of utd don't live within 1000 miles of Old Trafford and never go. Man Utd have a reported social media fan base of 142m. That's who the sponsors are interested in selling to. They are the subscribers that the ESL were trying to attract.

I doubt the Glazers will be concerned with a couple hundred, what they refer to as, legacy fans getting on the pitch. All they will do is find out who left the gate open and beef up security.

Our cause back in the day was when the fans that went to games and a few more locally were pretty much universally against a man that was seeking to destroy the club to benefit financially. In Utd case, I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of those 142m don't give two hoots about who owns Utd as long as they seem them more on the box and see them competing.

Personally, I'd love to see Kroenke, Henry and the Glazers bugger off back to the states but not if it is at the expense of us losing Tony Bloom.

You're complaining about the cost of sweets on the ESL concourse again, aren't you?

When the Lemon BonBons went up to £1.20 a packet it pretty much ended football for me.

I feel and share the Utd fans pain.

Shareholder directors hold almost all the aces.

Ashley - Newcastle fans hate the bloke. What can they do? He sits pretty, waiting for £400m worth of bloodied petro dollars to buy him out.

West Ham fans have said on phone ins that they still loath the duo and Brady, but :lolol: it was on the back burner when they thought CL football/riches were theres. Shame that.

I read Build a Bonfire when it came out. I don't recall anything about how pitch invasions pushed Archer into selling the club to Knight.

The campaigns were brilliant, especially as a template for others, but Paul Samrah triggering the rule changes that now prevent owners selling grounds with no contingeny is the primary lasting outcome. I'm not convinced even the peaceful protests are what forced Archer out, because he'd sold the Goldstone, and the club he sold to Knight was worthless. He'd got what he wanted. The pitch invasions mostly cost us 3 points.

Clueless like most of your posts

I have you on ignore and only saw your schooling of Henfield One about our War Years from someone else calling you out for the knobhead you are. It’s why I have you on ignore! As others have said, not being there is why your memory is bad. Thankfully many of us fought the good fight. So stay in your arm chair, grandpa. As you were...in the 90s. :)

Nailed it the guys a grade A bell end.

They can do a bit more than the equivalent of 'marching' from The Hove Park Tavern at 14:45 to The Goldstone, while wearing replica kit and having a pie and pint at half time.
