Boring By Sea
Electric Soft Parade have just announced an acoustic christmas show at the Unitarian Church for december 6th, really looking forward to that. I'm very glad that they seem to be having a decent year this year.

Great venue choice and a weekend date. I'm in.

An old friend disclosed to me in confidence yesterday evening that his son used his tickets for Nick Cave as 'roach material'.

I just thought I'd share that with you.

Had he used them to go to the gig first? Or did he reach for his tickets on the night of the concert only to find that they had been used for another purpose?

The gig is tonight in Edinburgh, he's recovered most of the damaged ticket from the ashtray, the floor and otherwise half empty can of 'Tennents Lager'. A once over with an iron and some sellotape, together with presenting the mother of their child's intact ticket and his credit card statement and hopefully he'll still get in.

Bloody hell! How stoned must his son have been not to have noticed?

Here's hoping he gets in...

Robert Plant at the RAH was surprisingly fantastic in it's awesomeness. Stacked full of reframed Led Zep classics - eg Babe I'm Gonna Leave You with a long flamenco-ish acoustic intro; a sublime Going To California. A real north African Tinariwen-esc (?) feel to the songs (not surprising since one of the guitarists produces their albums), it really worked his voice has mellowed (not a fan of the wailing on some Led Zep tunes) and it was no kareoke session, sounding really fresh. Best gig for ages. Would definitively see him again, fantastic. He has not stagnated like many veterans. Superb versions of What Is and What Should Never Be and Black Dog, Rock n Roll too. I 've seen the dvd of the '07 reunion but enjoyed these adapted versions more. 10/10 from me.

Warpaint (probably my favourite all girl ensemble since the demise of the legendary Sleater Kinney) have announced a Dome date for early next year, they aren't going to sell that out are they? Note to Haim fans - these girls really rock.

Well, they sold out Brixton this week (very good they were too) and the album will be out by then...

Not sure if this counts but my wife saw The Breeders on Thursday at The Astor in Mt.Lawley doing their Last Splash album in full tour - she reckons they were awesome and that the Deal twins harmonies were as good as ever.

They've come a long way....

EDIT: Did they play much new stuff? What did it sound like?

Yeah, several new tracks inc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnuFYYJHaY0 which is... ok.

I didn't really get into the first album (except Undertow, obv). Much preferred the EP.

The gig was a slow burner. They only really cut loose after an hour, with several long tracks inc Beetles. Oh, and Billie Holliday.

So much potential here though...

I agree with you, the album was a bit of a let down after the EP. Glad to hear that Beetles & Bille Holliday are still in.

Certainly am fella. It's the 3500 capacity Colombiahalle. Loving their new long player as well; real grower which still gets better with every listen. Excited.

Arctic Monkeys have cancelled a few gigs over here because Alex Turner has had laryngitis. They have now cancelled tomorrow's gig in Offenbach - so keep your eyes peeled HT, hope that you won't be disappointed on Tuesday.

Cheers for the heads-up. Fingers crossed.

Saw The Cult on Friday at the Roundhouse . Have stuck with them over the years and have seen some red hot sets and a couple of luke warm ones. This may have something to do with the level of refreshment before the gig. 3 years ago at Sonisphere was particuarally dreadful.
Friday's gig was quite simply awesome. They billed it as Electric 13 and played the whole of the Electric album in order , minus Born to be Wild. I was a bit concerned for first couple of songs as Astbury seemed routed to the spot and clinging on to the mic for dear life . Need not have worried. Clearly just needed to warm up as us 50 somethings now need to do. Stunning gig. Played the set. Went off for three minutes. (they showed a three minute film),then back on for a Love album greatest hits set intertwined with 4 songs from their 2012 Choice of Weopen , including the magnificent Embers , taken from the special edition disc. ....Went off again and finished with Sun King , Horse Nation and Dreamtime.
Absolutly brilliant gig , and long may the Cult continue to play live.

The mighty and vastly underrated Icarus Line at the Hope tomorrow.

This was an amazing show, massively under attended though. The Hope was half full at best. The Icarus Line are really worth checking out. Their most recent record Slave Vows has got some stunning reviews and will feature in the upper reaches of my albums of the year.

For fans of The Stooges, Spacemen 3, Swans, JAMC etc....

Bad For Lazarus in support were alot of fun as well.
