Saw Television last night at Fly By Night in Freo, sold out crown d of no more than 500 I'd say. They played the whole of Marquee Moon minus Friction and a few others over a 90 minute set. Pretty good effort for a bunch of old fellahs - not often I feel on the younger half of an audience nowadays!

I am a little jealous of you at the moment.

Jealous of anyone at C 2 tonight. Could not make it myself.

Just back. Brilliant. The man is a born performer, and all round good bloke too.

This was the first time I had seen him since The Beta Band at The Paradox (?) in 1995 (?) and he's lost none of his passion, none of his individuality. I loved tonight's gig.

Great night down at The Haunt last night for The Anti Nowhere League.
Do really seem to have reinvented themselves .After years of regurgitating the first album , they now have as many 'newer' songs in their set as old ones .Also a good turnout , considering the weather and a healthy 90 minute se to boott. A lot different to the first time they headlined The Top Rank. It was either their first headline tour or the WXYZ records tour with The Meteors and the Defects. The League just about managed 35 minutes that night.
Ironically the Meteors are playing the Haunt in November .Been a few years since I last saw them , so not sure if a suit of armour is still required .Always been a little fiesty in the past.

I stood next to Animal from the League in the urinals when they played the Top Rank in about 84/5?

Over 8 days I've seen Mark Eitzel at The Palmeira, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at The Dome and Mark Kozelek at All Saints Church.

Best of the bunch by far was Mark Eitzel. The other two were merely excellent.

Julia Holter, Jason Isbell, Johnathan Wilson and Yo La Tengo to come.

Ian Siegal - the UK's top bluesman doing a solo show at the Chi Inn tonight. Can't wait.

Right peeved about missing Steve Mason last night. I STILL haven't seen him & I've had so many opportunities. I'm still liking his record this year.

Was it full (ish)?

About two thirds full at a push I reckon. Made for a pleasant viewing experience. First time I've seen Steve Mason and I thought he was excellent, great gig.

Just got back from Midlake. They're never going to blow you away but it was a very enjoyable, albeit short (75 mins), show.

Also found out Motörhead has been postponed :-(

I saw Midlake at a festival in the summer and was unexpectedly impressed - especially since I had them down as a 'nothing better to see at the time' filler.

I know exactly what you're saying. It took me some time to appreciate them and repeated listens of their music to 'get them'; they really do not stand out intitially. Patience often rewards though. I imagine they'd work really well on a warm sunny mid-afternoon festival slot.

One of my favourite ever gigs in brighton was Midlake at the Hanbury Ballroom, the band remained hemmed into the stage and weren't allowed off until they had played practically every song they knew, a simply outstanding night.

Warpaint (probably my favourite all girl ensemble since the demise of the legendary Sleater Kinney) have announced a Dome date for early next year, they aren't going to sell that out are they? Note to Haim fans - these girls really rock.

Electric Soft Parade have just announced an acoustic christmas show at the Unitarian Church for december 6th, really looking forward to that. I'm very glad that they seem to be having a decent year this year.
