Tickets still available for Mark Eitzel at The Palmeira next week. How the hell he isn't selling out The Dome is beyond me. Likewise Mark Kozelek at All Saints church the following Tuesday. Between them is the small matter of Nick Cave at The Dome. 3 gigs in 8 days of the highest quality. Happy days. "Happy" might not be the most appropriate adjective.

Islet were brilliant last night, they really are an amazing live band. Great performers, great songs.

The first support on Hypnotised (they can't be the first to that name surely?) are ones to watch. I doubt the collective age of the three of them is much over 50. Shades of Animal Collective, F**k Buttons & Kid A Era Radiohead.

I'm jealous of kids these days growing up with this limitless access to music.

I forgot to say, I accidentally ended up catching Charlie Boyer and The Vouyers on Wednesday night at Green Door Store(long story.) From what I read about them, they should have been up my street & they've been the recipients of a fair amount of hype in recent months

I was taken aback by how dull they were. Hardly any stage presence, a couple of decent songs but a load that went nowhere. They were like a Fisher Price Horrors. Totally formulaic, if anyone wants a British psych rock record that has some catchy hooks, go for the Hookworms album, not these guys.

Nice haircuts though.

Ooo sounds good. If you find some Hypnotised tracks whack them up here.
Ah the old days you had to fight to find the music, and that's whats made us so anal about it. I maybe now an old chunt at 40 but I still remember the joy and excitement of finding new bands when I was 15, and still get it.

They have a mini album out on soundcloud which is pay what you like, I'll link it later. It was very indicative of their sound, they are obviously still at an early stage of development & have a bit too much of a tendency to bathe everything in layers of reverb but I thought they were seriously promising. Their presentation was interesting and for a 90% electronic act I always think is a difficult trick to pull off.

I used to have to talk to the old gits to find out what's good. Kids of today, they don't know they're born.

Glad you enjoyed Islet. I heard of them for the first time last week when they played a session on Six Music which was very good. I really like the Hope as a venue. It is pretty small and intimate which seems to suite a lot of the bands that play there.

They're a real visual fun live band as well which is a nice counter balance to the music which can be quite earnest and serious I think. The casual instrument swapping is brilliant as well. I'm such a sucker for that.

It was half full if i'm being charitable. I can't help but think there is a market out there for Islet (I could see them doing really well on a BSP support for instance) but they don't seem to be getting the push they need. I haven't seen many reviews for the new record either.

In fact, given the limitless access to music and porn that kids have now, I'm not sure I would have left the house as a teenager.

And do not forget alcopops; they do not have to persevere with beer like I did.

Free HMHB Tickets

Due to a dramatic and bady-timed detached retina I can't go tonight.

Anyone want 2 free tickets? PM me with your email address and I'll forward you my confirmation email with the reference number that will get you in.

Shame to see the tickets wasted. I'll just have to wait another 15 years for them to come back to Brighton:(

Wow. Just seen a poster advertising a Julia Holter gig down the road from my place next Thursday. Have to go to this. It's about a 5 minute walk at a little folk club.
