Of course it's not. How many TV shows have ended with a cliffhanger that promised more, but never happened?

I wouldn't say LoD finished on a cliffhanger. The fourth man was identified, a lot of the other storylines could be interpreted as being tied up and there was some sort of closure to the murder trial that was one of the main threads of the series.

Having said that, it also leaves the door open to another series, where those 'tied up' storylines could be revitalised again. That's kinda what I was saying. It's over, until another season is announced. Clever writing, the more I think about it, TBH.

I remember watching a show called "By Any Means" which ended the first series with a cliffhanger of two protagonists pointing guns at each other then the screen going black as shots were fired (a bit like episode 5(?) of this series of Line of Duty). It was never recommissioned so it was never revealed what happened.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. There are enough threads left un-pulled for more story.

One of the biggest running strands - the historic paedophile ring stuff - still hasn't been satisfactorily sorted. Hopeful for a 7th to focus on taking the nonces down.

Line of Duty could be returning for a much-anticipated seventh series, according to one report.

The Currant Bun says that all the main players have attended a summit to discuss schedules and how they can fit in filming.

“Jed is close with Vicky, Martin and Adrian and they often meet for dinner — this time it was different,” the report says.

“A topic of conversation was how they could align their schedules in 2025 to ensure Line of Duty 7 happens. The ambition is filming could start next year, with it on screens by early 2026.”

A bit more credibility for you.

Where they left it, the only way they could continue the story would be to delve into the political side of corruption, as, if I'm remembering it correctly, it was left with the conspiracy extending beyond their remit, involving MPs and Government.

Would be very pertinent as it always is.

In fact, if they wanted to make it really relevant to where we are now, they could have the new season set during a general election campaign, with an imminent change of government part of the political tension.

Hopefully if it does return, it doesn't feel like one series too many.

Always better to go out on a high.

Was seated 2 rows behind Ted Hastings at a Graduation last week, I should have grabbed him during the post scroll bubbles and grilled him.

I don't know why, but I've got a feeling this series should probably be done now.

And I say that as someone who really enjoyed some of it.

Yes, I'm the same. I absolutely loved it, and if they bring it back and it's the same as it was before - great. But I have a nasty feeling that they took it as far as they could and any new series would be derivative and/or unbelievable.
