Anyone planning on taking part in the "switch everything off for five mins all at the same time across the globe to raise awarenes of global warming" thing tonight?

Will it include Vibrators? If so that could seriously eat into my evenings plans.

no and a f***ing stupid idea, more power will be used starting up all appliances/plant etc than if it was left on. Also if everyone turned everything on at once the surge could damage the grid.

Couldn't say about the surge but I think the idea is not to save energy but some half arsed idea to raise awareness. Just for the record I have no intention of joining in.

I'll be taking part, as a Geographer I know all too well about global warming, and this might get people into the idea of saving energy etc.

On a serious note perhaps you can answer this for me? I read in New Scientist that if 90% of buildings in the world had white painted roofs it would mimic the reflective qualities of the polar caps and reduce if not counteract global warming, Bullshit or sense?

In my computer
Thing is though - what it could perceivably do is make people question whether or not they need to have so many things running anyhow...

How many people are at work today and know that their tv is on standby at home?
