Doesn't your camcorder have an integral light ?

Yes but it's not that great when your shooting a film.

What are you trying to film ?

A pub scene. Natural light may be to dim but unsure how to manipulate film lights to add extra light but still appear dim.

For an interior, with a camcorder, ideally you want something like Strand Quartet Fresnels, they are soft edged lights, 650 watts each - probably get away with a minimum of four (unless you need to cover several areas, corridors etc... at the same time).

You would need a simple dimmer, something like a Zero88 Alphapack2, 3 channels, 5 amps each, max 13amps across the three channels would probably do the trick.

And a couple of lighting stands to get some of the light up high - and possibly reflectors for some flattering up-lighting.

The camera will be static on one area of the pub, a close up. Also I am on a bit of a budget so trying to do it on the cheap and hire as little equipment as possible.

position the key light where you think the natural light would be coming from (say the window) them use a fill light to lighten the shadows. (insert your own joke there).

easy.

My thoughts precisely...
