1970s I had a battery powered automatic machine gun emitting realistic flashes when firing, and also carried a couple of RPGs which could travel 30 odd yards at a guess. Happy days.

Born in ‘94. 31 this year. I feel that I was born 20/30 too late. I don’t mind technology but think it’s advanced too far, especially social media. My gran used to say to me that phones were a “disease amongst young people” and I laughed it off. 10 years later I now totally understand what she meant. Feel that my parents, both born in ‘55, had their younger years at the right time.

Annette, from Hove, Sussex, said the boys had been playing with the plastic gun in Greenleas Recreation Ground after dark on Saturday.
She said she was told two armed officers emerged from an unmarked car running towards the boys screaming "get down, get down".
Annette told BBC Radio Sussex: "When I arrived at the park there were already four police cars and eight to 10 officers around the boys."

I've got a feeling the next series of Night Coppers isn't going to be that exciting.

And I assume she is the one who has leaked it to the press for her 10 minutes of fame rather than taking parental responsibility for wasting police time.

My son shot my friend in the eye with a nerf gun a couple of years ago (by mistake, or so he claims). It did her eye permanent damage! They are dabgerous things.

Parents did nothing wrong. Kids did nothing wrong

Old Bill heavy handed as usual. What did they think was happening? Some sort of gangland shoot out with AK 47's in Hangleton? f***ing clowns
Yes and No. Yes because in hindsight it's ridiculous. No because a member of public reported it and sadly children everywhere must now be treated as if carrying knives and/or air rifles; because they do commit murder or attempted murder every week somewhere. Plus not beyond realm of reality a gun, printed or otherwise, could make its way into a kids hands. It really isn't. Easy to ridicule the Police, but society is to blame i.e. you, me and everyone else on here!

Of course. Typical of the "I know my rights" (but never responsibilities) generation. Hard wired to film, post online, contact media and position herself and her family as victims. Has a checklist of words and phrases to use to this effect, without hesitation or even being conscious she's like this i.e. habitual.

Parental responsibility for letting a couple of 13 year olds play in the park. Give over.
I suppose the point I was trying to make but not very well, is that it never amazes me why people like this run to the press. Ok, little Jonny has been traumatised by an over zealous police force and now can’t sleep at night, so let’s tell the whole world about it so he can have the p ripped out of him at school!

I used to carry one of these as a "concealed" weapon. Lived to tell the tale.

I was born in 75 and sometimes feel I was born 20-30 years too late too!

lets not ignore the member of the public that caused this. we dont routinely have armed police patroling parks, someone phoned in " there's someone in the park with a gun", not stopping to think the bright blue and orange thing is a toy.

You must have been rich or spoilt, we had to make pretend machine guns from tree branches and threw rocks as grenades.
Real poor us.

I too am sick to death of the police responding to reports of potential gun crime. Even worse they then proceed to act as if the person with a gun could be dangerous. Ludicrous!

They should just send a community support officer round, armed only with a bic biro, ideally 2 or 3 days after the reported event.

Absolutely no issue with the police responding to the report of a potential gun as if there's a gun, no matter how unlikely.

Very easy to be wise in hindsight. Nothing bad happened. Move on.
