Remember Blue Nun well.It used to be shipped to Horsmunden in old petrol tankers, and then bottled for the unwary.Always seemed to be left over at parties,so some people had sense!

I am not a great lover of Champagne unless it is pink but am rather partial to a Bucks Fizz when offered. In actual fact I prefer Veuve Du Vernay or Asti if it is drunk straight but dont drink a lot of either.

In the 60s the rubbish wine was called Blue Nun now it is called Prossecco so good advertising has made it such that people 'need' to be seen drinking it. It just shows what good marketing does for poor products.

Blue Nun was a dreadful Liebfraumilch and nothing like a decent prosecco. It was a Muuler Thurgau and tasted like shit. There are good Proseccos and some ordinary ones but trust me nothing like that German crap which had to re-brand to a Reisling just to sell a few bottles.
Its drunk in huge amounts over here now but never tastes better than in an Aperol Spritz on the shores of Lake Garda or a rooftop terrace in Bologna.

I will buy a bottle in Spain and if none of us like it mix it with Orange Juice. In Teneriffe my middle son won a bottle 1 night and then again the next and asked if he could swap it for a pint of lager on the 2nd night. He thought that it was awful.

He won it in Tenerife. Excelant. I bet it was the top notch stuff.

I did say that in a later thread:lol:

When the kids were young BG I remember do a really cheapie all inclusive holiday in Lanzarotte and drinking their local white wine. Now that was without doubt the worst white I had ever drunk. That would have made Blue Nun taste like the finest of champagnes.
