YOU may not realise it but there’s a deep sense of deja vu at Brighton ahead of the last game of the season tomorrow.
This time last year, we had a must-win game at Middlesbrough to realise our dream of promotion to the Premier League.
Fast forward 12 months and, even though we are already up, this is very much a must-win game for us.

When we were preparing for this campaign, we had three main objectives agreed between the players and coaches.
These were categorized as “minimum acceptable”, “realistic achievement” and “dream goal”.
In gaining promotion to the Premier League, objectives No 1 and No 2 have been ticked off, leaving our “dream goal” to be realised —* being champions of one of the hardest leagues in the world.
Since gaining promotion, everyone in the squad has been repeatedly asked just how important being champions is in the grand scheme of things? After all, to be playing top-flight football for the first time in 34 years and all that comes with that is a fantastic achievement for the players and the club.
But trust me, it means everything to be champions. Why? We were all young boys once upon a time, inspired by watching players lift trophies and the celebrations that come with it.
And now we are 90 minutes away from doing the same thing ourselves.
When we look back on our careers, it will mean everything to have the medals we gained and to be able to show them to our children or grandchildren.

It doesn’t show on your CV how much money you’ve earned or how many* Twitter followers you gained. But being a champion at some point is why we all play this great game.
I doubt anything can rival lifting the league trophy above your head and* saying* you were part of the best team in a tough league. So there have definitely been nerves in the build up to* tomorrow’s game.
In training this* week, everyone is itching for an opportunity to play and as a result the standard has been superb.

Tackles flying in, everyone pushing each other towards what could be the biggest achievement in the club’s history.
Of course, we’ll be listening out for the Newcastle score but whoever is on the pitch will have to be 100 per cent* focused on the task in hand.
Even so, whenever you hear a cheer or groan in the stand from the away fans at Villa Park it will have a definite impression on the players during the game.
I’m sure it will be the same up at St James’, where 55,000 Geordies will be desperate to see their team crowned champions so they can celebrate* in the knowledge they have added another trophy.
Anyone who says it doesn’t matter, that football’s about money, cars* and fame, has forgotten* we were all young once and* following your dream means everything.
Our dream this year was to become champions, pure and simple. And that’s why tomorrow is a must-win game.

That article nails it. I suspect the desire to win the title is heightened among the older players as it's natural for youngsters to think there'll be other chances. But the fact is only a tiny proportion of footballers win meaningful silverware in their careers - this could be as good as it gets for some. They all need to seize the day, so they don't look back and regret the missed opportunity years down the line.
