I remember the days when some people would claim that Lewis wasn't the greatest Albion player of all time and Lawrenson was better
It's a valid argument (though one which can never be proved either way)! Was Lawrenson really that good? - well, yes, he was. He went on to fabulous heights with Liverpool, and if his grandad hadn't drunk a pint of Guinness, England might have done better in World Cups in the 1980s! Not that this diminishes Dunk's achievements in any way.
I think I’ve got a screenshot somewhere of a post from a couple years ago where someone said Guy Butters is better than him!
At some time in their careers, that might well have been the case.

Stupid question......

When he was playing 1st. division football for Spurs before Lewis Dunk was born?
When he played in the FA Cup semi-final when Lewis was six months old?
When he started playing for the Albion when Lewis was 11 years old?
You choose.
Yeah, but on that basis I could reasonably claim to be a better footballer than Bobby Charlton.

You’ve got to hold your hands up sometimes and say fair play. Claiming Guy Butters is better at football than an embryo is an easy claim to make, but posting it on NSC before the website existed takes some effort.

Don’t know about a couple of years ago but I do remember Fulham tempting him and not much later he got sent off and some fans on here were calling him a liability and offering to drive him to Fulham themselves :lolol:

Just another reminder that football fans can be reactionary, doltish dunderheads.

Tbh, the word "can" is doing some heavy lifting there.

Not reactionary (sorry, pet peeve). That means "opposing political or social progress or reform".

You might mean over-reacting?

Doltish dunderheads is brilliant though!!
Or underrated - nobody seems to know what that means either.

You are quite right that reactionary traditionally relates to political views so over-reacting may have been a better word choice. To be honest though, I imagine that there's a pretty strong correlation between reactionary politics and bedwetting football rage.

That doesn't happen anymore
I don't know why you're 'facepalming' it as it was true.

What an absolute privilege it has been to watch almost every one of Dunks career home matches. He came into the first team about when I first bought a season ticket. I remember watching him train with the other subs at half time in the days when he wasn't a starter, and laughing at how much more skillful he was than the midfielders and forwards of the time. To watch him learn, achieve such success, grow into a truly world class defender, and now become a leader and teacher to the next generation (Colwill, JPVH, Hinch) has been an absolute highlight of my Albion supporting life.

I struggle to think of many players in the modern game that better epitomise the word 'legend'.

Thank you Lewis!
Dean Lewington.

Came through the (original) Wimbledon academy, to make his debut at the age of 18, in 2003. Moved with the club to MK, and is still there today - his 19 appearances this season at the age of 39, bringing him to the cusp of ONE THOUSAND games for the club(s). Currently, if my maths is right, on 993. Astonishing.

More than DOUBLE the total games for MKD than even Lewis has made for the Albion.

According to Wikipedia, he has made 928 first team appearances - 896 for MK Dons, 32 for Wimbledon.

He must be knackered by now.

This is all very impressive but I'm not about to start pretending that Wimbledon and Franchise FC were ever the same club.

Very nice. But has he been with his club from Div 1 all the way into the upper reaches of the Premier League and Europe? Long service with one club is amazing. To do so whilst having to continually up your performance levels to keep pace with a club going all the the way to the top of football is quite incredible.
