Lewes V Fisher

I shall be there. Lewes seem fairly relaxed about the game (and there's no reason why they shouldn't be). After the result at Cambridge last night, Newport County, on the other hand, are head to head with Fisher Athletic for the fourth play-off place and need to see a Fisher defeat. Newport's last game of the main league season is against Fisher at home, so a Lewes win tonight would be insurance against a vital match going wrong on the last day. And Newport can put an end to Eastbourne's hopes of automatic promotion if they beat the Boro on Saturday. A bit of encouragement for Newport from Lewes wouldn't go amiss tonight.

Is this all too complicated? If so, just turn up at the Dripping Pan for a beer on the terraces. There's pleasure enough in that.

Was bloody tempted. My studio overlooks the Dripping Pan, and I was strongly considering going. But I've got too many things to do tonight.

Instead, I might well be a VERY bad Brighton fan, dip out on Bristol Rovers and head for the Pan on April 26. They could well be presented with the Champion's Trophy that day.

Lewes might win the title this coming Saturday. All they have to do is beat Fisher tonight and then match Eastbourne's result on Saturday. If Newport County beat Eastbourne on Saturday, Lewes would win the title if they lost against 21st-place Dorchester.

Assuming Lewes win tonight, that is.

Possibly the worst game of football I have ever seen, but I guess the players have had a long season and there will also have been a fair few nerves. At least Lewes defended well, and their keeper is excellent (for that level). Just over 1,000 inside, but very little to cheer any neutrals on a freezing cold night. Lewes undeservedly won 1-0 and will go up as champions. Goal was scrappy. Great for Sussex sport but I hope they strengthen before next season. It'll be interesting seeing the likes of Oxford, York, Wrexham etc there next season. The big question is, will people keep coming now there won't be beer on the terraces....?
