Lewes winger Peter Adeniyi starts a 2 week trial at Palace on monday.
This boy is only 21, has been getting rave reviews all season, now our arch rivals jump in and give him a trial.
If they take him on,questions have got to be asked about our scouting network.

I wouldn't worry too much. With all due respect to the lad, if he joins Palace he's clearly useless.

...like that useless Ian Wright bloke who we had previously turned down.

Re Ian Wright: I think we told some guy called Roy Keane not to bother after Paul McCarthy had set him up with a trial too.

But you can't always tell with players at a young age. Ian Wright might have appeared crap then, maybe he needed physical maturity. On the other hand you've got thousands of brilliant 10 year olds, one crops up on TV every few years or so, with a pushy dad claiming he's choosing between 10 different clubs. They're usually f***ed by 15 and you never hear from them again. Anyone remember a kid called Sonny Parker who had massive hair and went to Ajax under much hype?

Where the hell is he now? Probably on the dole and very bitter at his old man.

When Dean White took over from Culverhouse,as well as Reserve team coach, he was supposed to be looking at the sussex scene for any useful players in the county. There's 3 or 4 players down at Lewes, who are worth a look, Crabb at Eastbourne Borough, 2 or 3 down at Burgess Hill.
If you don't want to look, you shouldn't be doing the job,White.

High up on the South Downs.
Wasn't Adeniyi on Dulwich's books? So Palarse have been watching him for a while I reckon. Not every non league player who gets a trial is good. We missed out by not looking at Justin Harris of Lewes before he got crocked though.

Im not sure the club take notice of any scouting. I informed them of a young player near me who was in the ireland under 17 team and heard nothing. Next thing I hear is that he's been picked up by nottingham forest.

I may be wrong but I believe he was in his twenties and broke into the Palace side soon afterwards.

I believe we have always had a shit scouting system, which is why Sussex youngsters have ended up at London Clubs. It appears that if you don't come through the youth set up don't bother to apply.

I hope someone out there can tell me I'm talking bollocks and name a player that we've found locally through the scouting network.

Wright is one of those could have beens, part of the reason he ended up doing well is because all the rejections he had received previously and that is what kept him going for so long. Some players go through the youth systems, think they've got it and become lazy.

i remember when at school, about 92, some lad in my year was supposed to be going for a trial at West Ham. If he was good enough for West Ham, why not Brighton?

It makes you wonder about the 'network' aspect of Brighton's scouting.

Knowing our luck Adeniyi will turn out to be a roaring successs for Palace. If we can't spot a good player who is only based 8 miles away from Withdean it doesn't say very much about our scouting system or the club's ambition. I can't believe that Lewis would want very much for him.

Adeniyi is a star at Lewes and runs past players down the right wing like there not there. Weather he will make the step up is not known but Iin the Rymans League he is class. Anyone who went to the Lewes Horsham match will known after his goal where he picked the ball up on the half way line passed about five defenders then the goalie to tap in from one yard. Certainly my goal of this season.
