Tony needs to get the lawyers out. You can’t just hold players against their will, this is probably illegal allegedly or something I don’t know.
He is Brighton through and through, De Zerbi made him, his girlfriend lives in Brighton and her dad is a Brighton fan, Chelsea fans have never heard of him, his best mate is a Brighton player and he has bought a house near Brighton.

Have I missed anything?

Just needs the #freelevi mugs in the Amex store and we are there.

If there's talk of Chalobah leaving because a) he's home grown so it maximises profit and b) there's too much quality ahead of him, then that undoubtedly increases our chances with Levi. Difference is he is probably already better and is left footed. But I don't think this is a firm 'no chance' as it stands.

I think the fact he’s had some time out injured might have been our one hope of him being under the radar for Chelsea and them instead banking on 100M signings. Sadly Southgate is trying to link him to England purely to stop him coming to us. That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it 🤣

How does Chalobah leaving ‘undoubtedly increase’ our chances of signing Colwil? Surely it removes one of his competitors for game time, and makes him more likely to want to stay and fight for a place?

These aren't the players you're looking for.

He is a rare talent, but not unique.

I'm sure Tony's ZX Spectrum is whirring away identifying an unknown doppelganger who will rock up in Belgium in the summer.

Because it's evidence they're prepared to sell promising home grown players to make room for the galacticos. Chalobah being at Chelsea doesn't make Colwill's chance of making an impact there any harder. It's the players they've signed over the last season or so he will worry about (not to mention inevitable signings this summer).

It's been reported that they will need to sell players this June to keep within FFP rules.

This is the only reason I have a glimmer of hope that he might join permanently.

That said, Chelsea will sell him to the highest bidder, and I suspect bigger clubs than the Albion will be in for him. Arsenal are in the Champions League, have been very shrewd with their transfers for a couple of years and thus might pay a premium for an English player. If Chelsea.are forced to sell, I wouldn't be surprised if he went there tbh. Not that we don't have a chance ourselves, mind.

Chelsea will want to sell the least amount of players for the highest price.

Can see Lofus/Cheek, Gallagher, Chalobah all going £40M+. Colwill will only go if we spend that kind of money at least

I was going to ask who'd be stupid enough to pay £40m for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, until I remembered that Everton might actually stay up.

Why do people think we have no chance of signing him?

Badiashile is the first choice left sided centre back so I doubt Colwill is going to walk into the starting 11.

Chelsea need to sell players.

Colwill knows the club, the manager and the team and knows he'll be an important part of it if he joins.

I realise it would take a bid that would smash our transfer record but I think it's definitely a possibility.

Maybe he has hopes of playing for England?

Chelsea do have a much bigger budget than us, but for every Sterling on 300k there’s a Badiashile on a reported 45k a week.

It’s not guaranteed they would pay more to a player not guaranteed to play every game / be one of their most important players.

I can't see us paying the fee that will be required for him. A young, English, left footed ball playing CB is not going to be sold for much less that £50m. Even if Chelsea do need to sell, other clubs will be willing to pay far more than us.
