A tight game was always our best chance. We were never going to go out there and score 3 or 4 because we don't have the midfield to create enough chances. They were no more creative on the day, partly due to our tactics which must have bored any neutrals but did the job within our limitations.

Hopefully McGhee will sort out the midfield in time for next season.

Can someone come up with a design based around

A Police wanted banner with McGhee on it and something like wanted for Mugging pre-madona Div 2 sides.:jester:

Am I the only one who thinks that everyone is being a tad harsh on Wilson? THey finished a mear 1 pt behind automatic promotion and only lost the play-off to a penalty in the closing minutes? Makes you wonder if we'd have been calling for McGhee's head had fortunes been reversed?

Totally agree Lammy. Unfortunately, he's paid the penalty for two third place finishes and twice bottling it in the playoffs but I really don't think he's a bad manager, and I suspect that sacking him would put their club back another couple of years. To sack him would mean paying up 2 years of his contract - that's the wages of two players that they are depriving themselves of.

In truth, who is available to replace Wilson if he goes?

I really do think they should give him one more season. He is one striker short of promotion.

Bristol City play the sort of football that will (sorry would have ;)) stood them in good stead in Div 1. McGhee is more hoof football and that will have to change next season. If I were a Bristol City fan I'd give Wilson another go. The is no one coming down that is likely to challenge them next season. Sheffield 'may' sort themsleves out and Tranmere will be there abouts. But nothing City shoulf worry about. I'd put money on them for the championship next season, but only if they keep Wilson. If they change then it will disrupt a good passing side!

I agree with Lammy. BC should waltz through the division next year. Bradford and Wimbledon are in disarray and both may be relegated again. The only serious competition I could see in Div 2 is from Swindon, Tranmere and Walsall.

Expect to see good things from Doncaster, Hartlepool and Bournemouth. Brentford and Sheff Wed could do well if they get their acts together but all in all Div 2 will be even worse than this year

I don't agree that McGhee is more of a hoof merchant. I think that McGhee realises that our strength is our defence, and the hoofing that we have seen is currently the best tactic for our current players. I believe that once McGhee has been able to add his own players to the squad, we'll see the ball played on the floor much more often.

I agree but it is true that Bristol play more of a passing game than we do. You can't keep hoofing it in div 1 which is the point I was making.

Totally agree. I think that is McGhee's strength in that he sees what we've got and plays to that strength. With a lampost up front and not the most creative midfield in the world, it's the obvious tactics.

Scoffers, I agree. A friend who supports Leicester says they played some of their most attractive football under McGhee - the only problem was that the players weren't quite up to it, and moves broke down too often. It seems that he's learned something from that and is now playing to our strength.

I also think he's trying to bring players through that want to pass the ball more. We'll have to wait and see what emerges though.

Roz, I also think that McGhee should be wanted 'for shooting down Robins'.

But how many years in a row? This isn't the first, second or even third time Bristol have bottled it.
