Brighton
Some people on here have stated that this event and I am not entering into the rights or wrong’s argument, have stated that this brings millions of pounds into the city.
They state that so much money is raised from this event that it lowers my rates bill.
Is there anywhere that this can be substantiated and how much each of us benefits from the event?
I can fully understand how hotels, restaurants, bars and shops can make a huge killing, but how exactly do I get lower rates? And is this figure published.

Because it's still thought of as a negative! The general attitude, that I've experienced and know of, is one of ' oh, poor you'.

Gay kids gets it much much worse though. Nope, can't saay I do see much bullying because I think the term 'bullying' is so overused it is unreal. Unkindness is not bullying.

But the thing is, the gay communtiy perhaps do not think others percieve them as being normal. In my opinion, I don't think people think of homosexuality as 'normal' whatsoever.

Of course they can be proud of being gay! why not!? It's an aspect to their personality, to who they are! In much the same way that my hetersexuality and my support of Brighton are only 2 aspects of my personality, and yes I'm proud of both.

But I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I don't feel my hetersexuality is an issue whatsoever, I live in a society where that is considered the 'norm' and I am a confident person. But I can say 100% that if I was gay it would be another story. I do have a very supportive fantastic family, a strong network of friends, go to a good school and live in a nice area - but even still I would feel threatened.

How you can deny that it's easier to be straight then gay I don't know!

I'm sure you mean well but I cant help wondering if people like you who feel the need to preach to others about why they should not just like but allmost feel sorry for gays actually end up doing more harm than good. No i'm not into the gay scene and no i'm not a supporter of gay pride and yes I do take the piss out of gays from time to time, But it does'nt stop me being able to live and work alongside gays without any problems at all because at the end of the day thats how life works. The problem with people like you is you try and force your views on to other people a hell of a lot more than a person like myself would and in doing so your more likely to stir up hatred and resentment that was never there in the first place.

No it doesn't stem from insecurity in sexuality, most issues in life stem from insecurity as a person. A fear of never being good enough, of being frowned at and being seen as less important than the next person or man.

Racism has a lot of elements of it ie we're better than you, you don't deserve to live here blah blah blah its all about shunning someone else to make your own world more secure.

Homophobia has elements of it as well. ie I'm not happy with my lot in life and so you mustn't be either. I won't allow you to chose a path that will make you any better or happier than me etc. etc.

A lot of homophobes will fall back on the argument that its unnatural but really that's a "front" of an argument. They just can't put into words really why they don't like it, and its simply because if they aren't happy no one else can be.

To be honest tede the only way your going to be able to know what a racist or homophobe is thinking is to be able to think and act like a racist and homophobe yourself, And if you've got that ability then your in the same catagory as they are.

Doe's the Christian church agree with you on this celebration of homsexuality?
That's an odd question to ask me. But for what it's worth, it would seem to me that the views of the "Christian church" (if there is such a thing) on the celebration of homosexuality are a tad muddled. Does that matter?

Fair point LB, NSC must allow freedom of speech...pity that some seem so determined to abuse that privelage on such a regular basis.

Using the c-word to describe people who go out to watch or take part in pride, don't you see anything slightly wrong in that...many of them are just ordinary Brightonians, some of whom (shock horror) might not even be gay!
