Ate at Dosa Express on Montague St last week and the food was amazing. More a cafe than a restaurant but brilliant South Indian/Sri Lankan food

As my username suggests I live in Hove but fully intend to move to Worthing in the next 10 years. Where I live now has turned into Clapham on Sea but Worthing seems a lot less poncy.

Worthing
The children's park is a bit better and the cafe is admittedly a lot better - but so what? There are loads and loads of children's playgrounds and parks with cafes all over Sussex, but there is nothing (and certainly nothing in the Worthing area) to match the overall selection of activities that Brooklands offered. Go-karts, boats, golf, a train and all the rest all in the same place.

Unless you are devoid of any sense of fun or an appreciation of what children enjoy I honestly can't believe that some people think that as a bit of scrubland it's better than what it used to be. In the summer holidays we often used to spend all day there, and on a sunny weekend in its heyday there would be 1,000 - 2,000 people there, maybe more. Now it's a fraction of that.
Shut up you old fogey…. There’s an outside gym there as well

On the ocean wave
Born in Brighton, grew up in Lewes, then moved back to Brighton, then Shoreham Beach, now Lancing.
Spend a fair bit of time in Worthing & Mrs Smudge works in Indigo Restaurant.
Worthing's ok & changed a lot since we've been in West Sussex. A lot of places to eat, although some come & go; the Masterchef winner's place being a good example. (He's not so popular after the way he treated the staff).
The Laughing Dog is one of my tips for a good breakfast.
Warwick Street is very lively with several good spots.
Shame the pier is closed for safety reasons. Perch & Tern are really excellent. I know the head chef in Perch as he was at Indigo, he's a top man, very passionate about his job.
Pubs, well I'm not so knowledgeable on those, as I still head to Brighton for normally an afternoon sesh these days. I love a Brighton pub crawl.
My feeling is Brighton is full of DFL's, & Worthing has a lot of Brightonians who have moved along. Well it's better than heading east!

Is the Brookland lake and miniature railway still there?
The lake's still there - no boats. The railway's gone.

If I was just being an old fogey I'd appreciate it - all those vulgar attractions have now gone. We stop and walk our dogs there occasionally on the way back from my mum's, and looking at it from a narrow, selfish dog-walkers perspective yes it's much nicer than it was. Nothing special, but at least there's no chance of them being hit by an errant golf ball or being knocked over by a train. I hate going there though as it depresses me when I think of what it used to be like.

Or run over by a go kart.

What's happened to Hove to make you say this?

I played there as a kid as well. My friend used to drive the train. 😂

I can't decide whether our shared time on the Marseille away trip means I should be happy or disappointed in your appraisal.

I too used to enjoy Brooklands as a kid. Many days in the summer hoiidays were spent there.

What I failed to realise at the time was what an utter DEATHTRAP for dogs it happened to be.

Something being less poncy is always a positive!

I have always claimed that I managed the longest shot at the old Brooklands Pitch & Putt. Our old football team were having a relaxing afternoon ahead of a cup final and I sliced a shot on the hole that ran parallel to the main road so badly that it went over the little boundary hedge and landed in the back of a flat bed truck that was queuing at the traffic lights. My ball was last seen heading towards Lancing!
