Leon as a winger?

Not much point at the moment, as we're desperate for strikers anyway, but does anyone else think Leon will eventually get shoved out on the wing to make a career for himself?

He's got the pace and skill, and he wouldn't be so vulnerable to physical attacks! I'm afraid that unless he grows a bit and, more importantly, toughens up a lot, he'll never be a top level forward.

yeah, he'd be great at weazeling down the wing to the corner flag then getting pushed off the ball so the other side can have a touch or two :p

does he have the strength to kick it far enough to create what some might call a 'cross' ?

I can see it happening as I thought last night that although Virgo was winning headers we could have done with a second big presence up there too. I think he has good skill and crossing ability and until we play to his strengths and put the ball on his toe he may be better on the wing.

didnt he bitch about being on the wing while at sheff wed

Indeed, it was one of the main reasons he fell out with Turner, he hated being played out of position, and by all accounts wasn't much cop there anyway. Keep him upfront, he'll come good.

Unfortunately for you I think Leon found his level in Div 2. He was a success at the level with Huddersfield, didn't make the grade at Hillsborough (and blamed Turner), found his feet again with you (again at Div 2 level), but is struggling to make an impact again.

He barely works hard enough as a centre-forward, I can't imagine him having to do the donkey-work on the wings, we'd be hopelessly exposed down which ever side he was playing on.

I think the days of the Big and heavy center forward are over,

Shearer possibly being the last.

Examples:

Owen, Defoe, Rooney (although is heavy), Terry Henry....probably

:lolol:

knight as a winger? cant see that happening as it would expose our left or right back, and seeing as mcghee is reluctant to play jarret who appears to be very good as a winger, i cant see it happening.

he just seems too distant from his strike partner all the time. i.e like he did with benjamin, iwelumo and now virgo. however he did link up well with henderson, who i notice is the subject of a bid from swindon to make the loan deal permanent.

I can see him playing wide. Bit of a luxury though as he does not track back Gary Hart style.

Can't see it as a permanent tactic, but at Withdean when we need a goal, I can see an extra striker coming on and Leon moving a bit wider out because he can be a little bit clever at putting the right balls in. Bobby Zamaro was better at it though.

Absolutely spot on.
