This is the Old Firm Derby, one of the biggest games in the world. Seen all over the world and Lennon gesture was just ridicolous. He should of just walked down the tunnel and gave his interview and ended it there, but he was trying to spur a reaction and he certainly got it. The bloke is a total idiot......

He had been subject to abuse all game and his team had pulled out a hell of a result in terms of his season. Despite what that picture looks like he didn't aggressively gesture, he jogged off with his hands cupped to his ears. Players and managers do similar stuff all the time, including Gus. Why single out Lennon?

Because he was trying to incite a reaction against their fiercest rivals and got one. All I heard from the Rangers fans all game was a chorus of boos whenever the Celtic fans sang "there is only one Neil Lennon."

Does that not count as abuse? Anyway, at the end of the game, he was being booed so he cupped his ears. I think there are strikers who do that every time they score at an away game.

He actually walked off, and I would add slowly, doing the cupping gesture.

You make a good point, why shouldnt he be able to do that, given other managers do and given his team had pulled off one hell of a result but let's remember, this is the old firm derby, this is the season they have taken three steps backwards in their relations, this is the time where letter bombs are being sent. No-one deserves letter bombs for being manager of a football team but when calm is needed why did he grab the poker and stoke the fire???

No one really deserves letter bombs. But if is being sent them, making gestures like that towards the group of people sending them is just stoopid
So you suggest that he changes the way he behaves because of some terrorists? Presumably you think our governments should tone down their aggresive stance towards terrorists too.
Lennon is a total wanker and doing that gesture, there is no wonder he is getting the parcel bombs through his door.

So, after receiving a couple of parcel bombs, he thinks it would be a good idea to do that to Rangers fans? Not very bright is he?

Celtic and Rangers fans both need to drop all of the sectarian bullshit-there is no place for it in real life or football.

What was sectarian about what Lennon did this afternoon?

It might have been better, just this once, to not provoke.

Don't be so naive-you know exactly what happens there. Both clubs are guilty of an ongoing feud that has, at its roots, sectarianism. Maybe you should also read what I posted-did I mention Lennon's gesture when I mentioned sectarianism? My comment was directed towards BOTH sets of fans. Not Lennon.

So because some elements of the rivalry boil down to sectarianism, you are basically saying that the rivalry itself shouldn't exist, and everyone should be all nicey-nicey?

Who is doing the provoking? He turns up after the events of the last week, in which he has acted with a lot of dignity, and gets 90 mins of abuse from home fans, which he reacts to in that manner after the FT whistle.

No, carry on as it is-their nice and healthy rivalry never hurt anybody.

It comes down to the same old double standards. Everyone on here creams over el classico and all the misbehaviour and bad attitude that goes with that, but they get all high and mighty about Glasgow. If Lennon had incited racial/sectarian hatred, fair enough, but all he did was react in a very general way that any football manager might.

This....I was living in the West of Scotland during this time, in a town that was predominantly Blue. When Souness signed Johnstone, many of the Rangers fans went ballistic, ripping up season tickets and kicking the shit out of any guy in Green hoops who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were at that point extremely bigoted, and what Souness did have a huge impact back then even in a sleepy Argyllshire town, so can't imagine the impact in Govan or Northern Ireland.
Not to justify Lennons actions, but he has had to face a lot of grief from Rangers and NI fans for many years, including being unable to play for his own country due to sectarian bigots.

Kev- you know that I have a lot of time for you mate, but to suggest that he deserves any form of death threat or bulletts/ bombs in the post is just plain wrong

They were talking about this on 606 yesterday and it was interesting that most supporters called in a blamed the other clubs for all the problems the auld firm is having. very few would take any responsibility and most most told the presenters (and us that we didn't understand).

What i don't understand is how so many can suggest that the players and managers should be able to make these gestures as they happen at football matches everywhere. Ignoring the fact that this rivalry and game are steeped in and part of an ongoing issue which both sets of supporters feel very passionately about and will never agree on. With this backdrop is it sensible to make these gestures? especially as things seem (my perception from a long way from Glasgow) to have escalated over the last few games.
