[Albion] Leicester away tickets

Someone said we didn’t take our full Leicester allocation so I was making a more general point about reduced allocations. It has been a factor this season and as we are not renewing our ST it may affect us going forwards. Everton said ‘sold out’ a few weeks ago but then they put more on sale and we bought ours. Don’t worry I’m not having a go at the club

I’m not worried. Just thought useful context to share in a discussion about away ticket allocations that there were still hundreds of tickets for sale (I looked on Friday and nearly got one) when they went off sale. You said they were sold out “a few days ago” Might matter to people with A+ memberships or those that have limited loyalty points.

Sure you weren’t logged out when it said ‘sold out’? Everton was constantly on sale as we watched it down the tiers until general sale.

This topic keeps getting brought up and it’s tough for both club and fans. Sure they take into context some things like form/geography/kick off time etc but won’t always get it right. My assumption would be after the Chelsea experience many would have jumped on and grabbed a Leicester ticket as it went from 350+ few days ago to now sold out. Not certain we would take 3k to Leicester on a Sunday though so maybe correct decision…..

Entirely possible. I was just out of hospital I think so everything a bit of a blurr. In the end we bought tickets but contracted Covid over Christmas so couldn’t go anyway. I’m glad to hear that Albion + membership will be worthwhile.

I’ve not mentioned that and agree it’s frustrating for those with limited points etc . Sorry you didn’t get to go to Goodison in the end.

Thanks, Goodison is only 6 miles from home as well !! Very annoying.

The club only lose money as I understand it on unsold tickets from what they have taken as an allocation so if we only took 1000 and only sold 900 then it cost the club £3k ie £30 x 100.

Which is a bit out of order really, as going by the location of the unsold tickets, Everton wouldn’t have been able to sell them to home fans anyway.

Not quite sure what people expect from the club. I was told yesterday by a steward at Everton that I could sit where I liked as we'd "only sold 900 tickets". That may be decent turn out, on the 2nd January, at a shit ground, where historically we always have done badly. But I assume the club will have lost money on all the unsold tickets. I'm sure the club wants as many away fans as possible at matches. They have to estimate demand using many criteria including the day of the week, the time of kick off, current form, past attendance numbers etc. It's not simply a case of taking a full allocation for every game and having lots of unsold tickets. These would have to be paid for either through a reduced transfer budget or more costs loaded onto home supporters through increased ticket prices or more expensive purchases at the Amex.

And didn't the Leicester tickets reach general sale? I don't have a huge number of loyalty points (yes, yes bad fan) but I got one...

How many days wages of Locadia (for example) equate to the club buying a thousand more tickets than they should?

I guess it might be part of the price we pay for having a maximum away seat price of £30. Home teams wouldn't be too pleased if there are whole swathes of seats empty when they could have sold them to home fans at a higher price. Imagine Burnley bringing their usual busload of fans and Brighton not being able to sell out the rest of the south stand?

If this carries on then we will just drift away from the Albion. We are switching from STH to Albion + members but that is only worthwhile if we can get away tickets.

Since the start of the season i have been looking at the away ticket sales and the way the club has been handling them . Early doors there were definitely some issues in particular with regard to norwich and liverpool , but latterly most games have gone all the way to purchase history so plenty of opportunity to buy tickets .
The club also have brought forward the onsale dates for a lot of away games presumably to give them more time to get a handle on demand and they are releasing the tickets in a certain block order (presumably in liaison with away club ) so that in the event of a game not selling out they are able to return some tickets .
The leicester tickets started selling on 14th Dec and by the 23rd were on sale to those with purchase history , i looked at them several times over this period and sales were very slow indeed even with only 2 of the 4 blocks being released . So i am guessing at some point the club had to make a decision as to whether to release another block or maybe even 2 if leicester would not take back just one ? Bearing in mind the fact that the previous game Everton had sold poorly ( no real surprise i suppose considering date opposition and ground ) and the current slow sales they must have decided to just have the 2 blocks , hence it is now showing as sold out .
I have a lot of sympathy with the club as they are often caught between a rock and a hard place and do feel they learnt from early in the season and that evidence shows that the vast majority of away matches have been available to most fans .

Being realistic they wouldnt sell more tickets for little old Brighton, their attendence climbs for Liverpool and man u but not for anyone else.
Anyway their ground is set up for away fans behind fixed barriers -which doesnt allow for a larger home influx

Were there Albion fans in the upper tier? I’m sure there have been in the past but I couldn’t see on Sunday. If not those tickets will have been sold to Everton fans.

Yeah, well my point was that the location of the unsold tickets meant that they couldn’t have been sold to the home fans anyway, it wasn’t like it was one big block next to the home fans, like we’d have for Burnley. We had not taken any upper tier seats, I think we have once before in the PL. I think we normally sell out the lower tier, which is a bit over 1,800.
