It's a disgraceful situation.

What's the point of making that agreement, verbal or otherwise, if the teams involved aren't going to honour it.

It is enforceable, if not by the football league then through the law courts.

A verbal agreement is as legally binding as a signed contract.

I think it was Sam Goldwyn who said:
"A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on."

The thing is it wasn't made as an agreement but an unreciprocated offer so they are not leagally held liable.

Legal jargon would say that there is no reciprical "consideration "going from relegated clubs to the promoted ones.

Damn I'm clever.:flameboun

Aaah, Looney but what of promissory estoppel, when you can legally argue that reciprocation is in the form of the changed status of the various parties and subsequent reliance upon the agreement.

Damn, I'm clever:D

Simster, some unexpected teams in that list. How do you get Middlesborough in there? McClaren is much too good to let Middlesboro slip out of the Premiership. Of the others maybe Spurs is a bit of wishful thinking but won't argue with the others.

I Agree that Boro won't be in the mix to go down, but Spurs could be. They're my outside tip for the drop, since they had such a shocker in the latter half of last season, just like we did before our relegation season. Plus, they'll always be remembered for getting beaten in the last ever game at Filbert Street.

I think the only teams with that could go down, other than the promoted sides, are Fulham and Leeds.

Fulham are getting worse as Al fayed loses interest and Coleman will struggle to keep all their foreign stars happy and on form.

Leeds have basically lost all their good players and if Viduka goes I don't think they've got enough quality to stay up.

Yep, I'll go along with that!

I imagine the side that lost to Woking was fairly weak due to the fact that Leceister are playing Barcelona at the Walkers Bowl tonight.

The teams I think that will struggle this coming season will be:
Fulham: Coleman has no experience as a manager let alone trying to manage a sub standard team against the likes of Man Utd, Blackburn and Middlesborough. Also look set to lose Davis.
Wolves: A good Div 1 side but I don’t think they will cut it in the Premier League.
Portsmouth: Redknapp keeps complaining about having a small squad and losing ther influential Merson will be a blow to them. Another strong Div 1 side who will struggle in the premier league.
Aston Villa: Not done great in recent years and O’Leary doesn’t have millions to spend like at Leeds. I expect them to struggle but not go down.
Man City: Arguably should have done better last season with the players they have. Players seem to be moving out this summer.
Bolton: Wills struggle but will ultimately stay up. Allardyce to continue to work wonders.

I think the three teams to go down will be Wolves, Portsmouth and Fulham.
