The backwards momentum that saw us hit the play offs on the final day of the season? With a squad that through injury and transfers was considerably weaker than that afforded to his predecessor? You may not have enjoyed the football as much but I don't get your argument at all.

We assembled a good enough squad for Oscar over the previous two years we've been in the Championship that the board clearly decided it wasn't necessary to augment the squad further with big marquee signings after getting in the likes of Ulloa and Upson.

Whether that was right or wrong we can have different opinions on, but Oscar had to get on with it. With the onus on showing improvement in both performance and entertainment value. He didn't do either of those things for me and I don't think he will next season either. We didn't look any better as a team even when our rash of injuries cleared up.

Following the 3-1 victory at the Amex this season I spoke to a group of Leicester fans after the game and they were all calling for the heads of Nugent and Pearson! Said Pearson would never take them up and was destined to blow it at the end of the season. Wonder how they feel now...knowing Leicester fans...still hacked off....

To be fair it's easy to say that with hindsight but on their forum I seem to recall at least 80% of them wanted them gone. Maybe their forum is full of idiots but even on here after playoff disappointment a majority are still behind Oscar if he does stay.

I don't think this fella would go on their forums to be honest, but it turned out the right decision keeping Pearson. I think with a years experience behind Oscar (at our level) and some inspired recruitment we'll do something similar.

I agree. Which is why I hope we hold onto Oscar. Alas, I think it will be a tough ask for whoever is in charge as I predict wholesale changes to the squad. Patience is required methinks.

Exactly this. No comparison to be made here.

We should be doing our level best to convince Oscar to stay and to provide him with the proper backing to build on what - in terms of league position - was a successful season.

This. Most were extremely unhappy, especially after the investment the owners put in. A few still aren't convinced by him, despite him winning League 1 with them, and dominating the league this year. It's like NSC doesn't realise every team has fickle fans and bedwetters.

That's right but it's not an argument for Oscar at all. I'd argue what partial success we've had this season is down to the team-building under Gus.

A year on and that team-building is gradually degrading, to be replaced by what from Oscar? Our squad has got weaker under his watch - and I know that because that's what he himself told the Sky TV cameras only recently. Where is his responsibility in that?

Given OG's normal demeanour, is it more likely that he has offered his resignation:-

a. In a fit of latin pique as the club have let him down, or
b. As the honourable gesture of a man who feels he's let the club down?

Hmm...I'm not sure this was what you originally meant. Your original comment was: "Brighton in the second half of the 2012-13 were the best performing team in the Championship by points gained. The backwards monentum under Oscar is therefore significant and the worry is that will continue if we give him more time."

I think you're moving the goalposts into far more subjective areas and citing a one-off defeat against a team who are absolutely flying at the moment as evidence of backwards momentum is just silly.

I presume you err on the side of b) which I'd agree partly with. But most sources do say he is unhappy with the lack of finance to buy players and mould his own team.

I think the whole Garcia debate is an odd one. We don't really know what he is capable of. His hands have been tied by injuries and the finances but the players he has brought in have generally not been good enough, with the exception of Lingard. I'm disappointed he has offered his resigation and would have hoped he'd have wanted to stay and make his own mark next season. But am i right in saying he only stayed one season at Maccabi too? Maybe he has made his mind up.

sorry I really think you are talking nonsense. Key players from last season were injured or sold and just not replaced. That cant be Oscars fault and getting to within three points of last season's tally is not backward momentum in the circumstances. Basically all you have is that you have found the footy less entertaining as have I at times but it has hardly been less effective in terms of points.
