Huddersfield Town CEO Nigel Clibbens today responded with a wry smile at Leeds United's attempts to beat the recession and gain something from a fruitless trip down the M62 last week.

Clibbens told htafc.com: "We were very surprised to receive a letter yesterday asking for us to pay Leeds' hotel expenses last week. Having left empty handed from the game, Leeds are now asking for Huddersfield's help to pay their bills!

"Leeds have told us that the 12.00 kick off 'necessitated' an overnight stay because their players 'would have been leaving home at an unreasonable hour in terms of match preparation time' and therefore under Football League Regulations we should pay.

and

Clibbens added: "Leeds' claim is as sad as it is laughable, but cannot be dismissed as they intend to deduct the cash from what they owe us from match ticket sales. We are awaiting further assistance from the Football League. The behaviour of Leeds is clearly against both the letter of the regulations and more importantly the spirit of the game and does nothing for Leeds' reputation at all."

Are Leeds really this low, or is it because they got beat?!!!

Ken Bates should not be allowed to have anything to do with football.

Uncle Kenny is trying to bend the FL rules in his favour. I thought that the home team only had to pay overnight and traveling expenses if a game was postponed or abandoned and the away team could ask to be compensated either for that game or the re-arranged fixture. This would normally only apply if a team has made a long trip but when its only 20 miles then that is ridiculous. The FL needs to tell Leeds to pay the monies taken from the ticket sales or face a hefty fine or points deduction for bringing the game into disrepute.

all the tight fisted yorkshire men that are knocking around and thatsenile old cockney has them all beat.

but it's shaun harvey on this not ken. that twat has bigger fish to fry right now.

and doesn't this just show what is wrong, pampered prima donnas needing a hotel because they cannot get to thorp arch for 9 of a morning.

anyway, it is regulation number 24.6 or 24.7 that an early kick off expenses of the away team are met by the home team and this isn't the first nor will it be the last claim from us or others, just like to make the news because it is leeds i guess, not often i read about borient billing millwall or whatever though that too happens.

but these claims are a little bi personal i guess from sh given the things that have gone on behind the scenes with huddersfield this season - copyright, videos etc. handbags and you haven't heard the last of it, ken is a twat but he is a very clever twat, i'd be mindful of my step if i were the aggitator.

rule 24.6 or maybe 24.7. if the kick off time is an early one the home team is responsible.

ken wants his £1,100 and chances are (though it is wrong) he will get it.

just wait for someone to whip out the old penny in the pound jibe and we'll get the full house.

Surely the regulations to give expenses to the away team for an early kick off (midday) are for the visiting team travelling a long distance that would need to stay overnight in a hotel as travelling on the day is unfeasible. I wonder if Wednesday and the Blades would do the same thing when playing their local derbies ? Is it because Huddersfield think they are now a bigger club than Leeds ?

i think it is because there is a spat going on behind the scenes rather than one club thinking big.

but it is a rule in the rule book that if you dick around with the kick off time you meet the expenses of the visiting team.

thar went to this game, i say thar went to this game.

leeds fans are rough aren't they, and yorkshire folk have different faces from the rest of us english. i've never seen so much fighting at a football match, just random spats of handbags between the town and leeds fans, the police were loving it ... they'd let the plums hit each other for about 5 seconds and then whack! they flip out there batons and pummel the shit out of the plonkers.
