Just home, soaked to the skin, but actually in quite high spirits after a decent game of football; we were just beaten by a much better team.
Never liked Leeds especially, but I thought their fans were top draw today - very vocal and lets face it, any team that fills that dreadful away stand at Withdean deserves some respect. Especially in Nov, with weather like todays.
Which is why I find it so odd these days, at a 3rd division game, that a few yorkshire 'folk singing at the final whistle in a home stand gets so many irate. Stewards ran in like they were auditioning for Obama's cavalcade, middle-aged dads in their Sussex country casual 2 gallon-hats sneeking up to the Withdean Stasi and demanding action be taken (whilst leaving early, great Albion fans they are) akin to "miss, miss, there's some Leeds fans up there and they're celebrating" Meanwhile other home supporters, instead of having some banter and maybe opening their throats for a change and trying to drown out 2 (yes, just 2) Leeds fans (and they made more noise than the whole of F block) instead end up positively snarling and getting all '80s with them. Honestly, it was injury-time! Let it go!!
Moreover, felt the ban on Leeds fans coming into the Sportsman was a bit off. Why? 4 perfectly respectable blokes in their 30's were asking me where they could go for a drink at 1pm having been turned away because they were from oop north. Jesus, it's nearly 30 years ago since Leeds rampaged through Europe. Attitudes are stuck in a time-warp. Welcome to Sussex I thought. Frankly it was all a bit pathetic, a bit like our support. Afterall we didn't even sell out against the league leaders in an 8000 ground. Today I felt we weren't just in the same league as Leeds on the pitch, we looked small-time off it.
