Leeds in F block

Just home, soaked to the skin, but actually in quite high spirits after a decent game of football; we were just beaten by a much better team.

Never liked Leeds especially, but I thought their fans were top draw today - very vocal and lets face it, any team that fills that dreadful away stand at Withdean deserves some respect. Especially in Nov, with weather like todays.

Which is why I find it so odd these days, at a 3rd division game, that a few yorkshire 'folk singing at the final whistle in a home stand gets so many irate. Stewards ran in like they were auditioning for Obama's cavalcade, middle-aged dads in their Sussex country casual 2 gallon-hats sneeking up to the Withdean Stasi and demanding action be taken (whilst leaving early, great Albion fans they are) akin to "miss, miss, there's some Leeds fans up there and they're celebrating":tantrum: Meanwhile other home supporters, instead of having some banter and maybe opening their throats for a change and trying to drown out 2 (yes, just 2) Leeds fans (and they made more noise than the whole of F block) instead end up positively snarling and getting all '80s with them. Honestly, it was injury-time! Let it go!!

Moreover, felt the ban on Leeds fans coming into the Sportsman was a bit off. Why? 4 perfectly respectable blokes in their 30's were asking me where they could go for a drink at 1pm having been turned away because they were from oop north. Jesus, it's nearly 30 years ago since Leeds rampaged through Europe. Attitudes are stuck in a time-warp. Welcome to Sussex I thought. Frankly it was all a bit pathetic, a bit like our support. Afterall we didn't even sell out against the league leaders in an 8000 ground. Today I felt we weren't just in the same league as Leeds on the pitch, we looked small-time off it.

Defintaly fair play to the Leeds fans who were in superb voice. Shame that the C didn't come anywhere near half of that. Two people singing won't do f*** all.

I can honestly say I haven't heard less noise from a set of away fans this season, didn't it reach D block? And to call it a decent game? I thought it was poor. Not moaning, like, but I didn't think either side were at their best.

It might be 30 years since they rampaged through Europe but only a couple since they got stuck into the Lanes. Hardly a shock that they were turned away from the Sportsman.

I don't have a problem with away fans in the home stand (as long as the game isn't a sell-out for home supporters as well), but singing/celebrating is asking for trouble IMO.

I'm not saying the people running to the stewards are right, but you're always going to get some people that take particular exception and things could turn nasty.

If they managed to contain themselves when the goals went in then it wouldn't have done any harm to keep quiet until they got outside the ground.

Are you joking? They were amazingly loud, could have mistaken the west stand for a roofed terrece. I thought it was quite a good set of fans.

Still a bunch of northen pricks however.

I know, but it's just so pathetic that a couple of blokes cheering their team at the end of a f****** game of sport in which we were well beaten and is 30 seconds away from finishing gets such an OTT reaction from so many. Disappointing, says more about Albion fans than them I thought.

Very much doubt it was the same people. And trouble's hardly likely in the Sportsman with all the security at the ground surrounding it is it? That's why, if any trouble occurs, it's going to be in Brighton itself. Not at the ground. Away fans in the sportsman's normal hat. And it's a good crack usually.

Do you sit in front of me . One of you in a Blue and Yellow away shirt who both sing, Brighton and Hove Albion at regular intervals. Your right there is only two of you singing.!

It is a bit pathetic when you put it into perspective like that, but football matches are emotive occasions (even at Withdean!), and I think the reaction was similar to that you'd get at any club. Yeah the game was nearly over but the Albion fans were already macked off at the result and wouln't have appreciated gloating.

At other grounds it would have definitely kicked off, it's just that most Brighton fans are whinging PUSSIES. :jester:
