Lee Clark - Knob or not?

Feigning injury or making the most of a minor injury to get the ball kicked out of play really winds me up. Most players only stay down whilst the opposition has the ball and is attacking in the hope some sucker will kick the ball out. It's totally abused and I would rather teams played on until it was clear the injury was serious. If the player really was injured and the opposition scored while he was down and he subsequently took no further part in the game, only then would it be right to allow the injured players side to walk the ball into the net.

I don't even think that that would be necessary. It's not uncommon for a team to have to play with 10 men for a short time while a player receives treatment off the pitch; there's no unwritten rule to say that the team with 11 men can't score a goal in that time.

As much as Lee Clark is a knob it wasn't sportsmanship. But then if the player wasn't touched and went down they kinda deserved it so it all pins on that.

Can't see what Yeovil did wrong. Player wasn't injured, ref allowed play to continue. If anyone was a knob it was the goalie for kicking it out when he didn't need to.

On ssn they were talking about letting the ref deal with time wasting, the problem is refs are inconsistent with it, and they aren't supposed to add time on for every stoppage, just those that are excessive. As such, there is ample leeway for players to deliberately delay the game using "natural stoppages" that don't lead to time added on.

If Yeovil had kicked the ball out, then Brum would be well within their right to complain as technically, it would be their ball from the 'throw in'. However, as it was Brum keeper who kicked it out, they shouldn't 'expect' the ball back...it would be the sportsmanlike thing to do, but they shouldn't expect it.

In short: Clark is a knob.

All this talk of the rights and wrongs - what about the player that was injured? I presume he is recovering ok in hospital and hopefully can play again at some point in his career. Oh, hang on, you mean he was alright.

Clark is a knob.

Only the ref should stop the game, and if so restart with a drop ball. Players have no business bringing the play to a halt, it really is one of my bugbears.
This. As for Clark, never really paid him much attention so I'll stick with 'maybe' :).

All Yeovil did wrong, was to buckle and give the extra time freebie goal back. Should have ballsed it out.

They had to go one way or the other, they chose to go one way then looked completely stupid for going back on it. Probably got more criticism for caving in and giving them a goal back 15 mins late than they would have if they'd gone on and won the game 3-2.

Clark's a rubbish manager. Failed season after season to get Huddersfield out of League one with a tidy budget. Reminds me of Karl Robinson. Oh and who could ever forget Clark's non-existent Invinciblesque run with the Terriers a few seasons back

Quite like Lee Clark to be honest at least his Huddersfield side gave us a guard of honour at Withdean not like Adtkins saints a week earlier plus he came over to the south stand and applauded our support as well before the game, seems a decent bloke

Birmingham were a goal up, in stoppage time and in possession when they put the ball out after the defender hit the deck and stayed down. Yeovil took the throw and lobbed the keeper to equalise and take it to extra time and then only once they'd gone 3-2 up did they let Birmingham score

If we had been in Birmingham's position we'd be livid

But as others have said, their player was not seriously injured and so it was a time wasting tactic by the Brum goalie.

Ref's can't cope with dealing with time wasting. They only book players for it in the last 10 minutes if at all and they never add on enough. Take the Derby game when they spent ages sending someone over to take corners. D'Urso just looked like a complete mug. The professional game should have independent time keepers and the clocked stopped when there is a stoppage. That is the only way you will eliminate time wasting as it would then serve no purpose.

From what I saw the player went down time wasting, therefore I haw no problem with Yeovil scoring. To give them a goal back is daft but should have been the end of it. To keep complaining even after they were given a goal back and won makes him a knob.

The annoying thing is that UEFA set the precedent by banning the player who scored for Shakthar (even though it was again a dive that led to the ball being out out of play) and as such it's considered unsportsmanlike to do it.

It's up there with 'shepherding' the ball out for a goal kick (previously known as obstruction as there is no effort to play the ball) for me.

I'd like to see that tried out in a match. I feel if that were implemented we'd have to go to 80 minute matches, as the stoppages, like in rugby (with the clock stopped) would make the entire running time of each match considerably longer.
