Learning to Drive - Intensive Driving Lessons?

Just wondering if anyone round here has experience in doing Intensive Driving Lessons, and if they can recommend anyone? Feel free to recommend just driving instructors you used on a weekly basis as well.

I learnt to drive 4-5 years ago, all the way up to taking my test. Passed my theory, etc. Driving instructor was happy for me to take my test, but then I ended up going on holibobs to Magaluf, and, well, everything went tits up from there!

Anyway, to get back on track. I've decided now is the time to learn again. I sat behind the wheel for the first time in 4-5 years a couple of weeks ago (all legal!), and it all came flooding back pretty quickly.

My plan is to do a couple more sessions with a relative (as per the above) just to get used to the very basics, and then look at intensive lessons. So I'm looking for some advice from those that perhaps did something similar, but more importantly, some recommendations.

Cheers x

One friendly bounce for the morning folk, else I'll do the recommended thing of actually looking somewhere relevant rather than looking towards NSC to solve all my life troubles.

I did an intensive course, one week, from scratch to test ready in 5 days. 4 hours a day Mon-Fri, and took my test the following Monday on the back of another final one hour lesson on the Monday morning to check I hadn't forgotten everything.

I passed, and for me it was DEFINITELY the right way to learn, as you could see such big progress each and every day.

Unfortunately, being an old git, it was nearly 20 years ago, so even if I could remember who the devil it was who taught me, he may very well not being doing it anymore.

So, not much help, other than to say, YES, this is the right way to learn.

If you have got that far, I think you'd be wasting your money on an intensive. Maybe find a local guy, see if you can do something quite quickly? Keeping in mind test slots usually take a month or so, depending on where you live.

As your re learning the basic stuff already with a relative & think your doing well, you may be better off just to book your theory again asap (1 month waiting list I believe) then just book 2, 2hours lessons then they will be able to tell if they think you need more or not, but I wouldnt go for a intensive course as it is expensive and may not need all the lessons.

I found it helpful to drive every day under professional tuition (to monitor lazy/bad habits) for a week before my test (albeit a great many years ago) - felt natural on test day and got rid of exam nerves. Not sure about the short intensive courses as have heard varied results with some good and lots awful - not so much about passing but more about preparedness to actually cope on the roads afterwards.
