Very honest assessment from RDZ in the press conference that he doesnt think Tross is operating at 100% and that's why he wasn't picked. Big challenge to the lad that if he doesnt buck up he wont be in a shop window if he has any aspirations of a decent move away.

Interestingly the club Twitter omitted those comments about him!

You do feel like this is one of those make-or-break times for Tross.

He'll either get his shit together and move on up or not and go down a slippery slope.

Obviously heads been not in the right place for us for a little while as he's not signed a new contract. Plus shows there were deep rifts in the Belgian WC squad which wouldn't have helped and looks like it's brought it to a head.

Really do hope that he gets himself back on track and realises how good it is here re-signs a new contract.

Hopefully he should be able to get 'up' for Liverpool at home (if he's picked).

I presume he was hoping for a decent-ish WC and then a move to a “bigger” club. For this, and other reasons, I struggle to see any bigger club coming in for him.

Age 28 too, so not a medium term prospect for a CL club.

Everton it is then.

I don’t think anyone is ‘writing’ Tross off - least of all me, he’s one of my favourite players but if Tross wants to move on, there’s no point in the club preventing him from doing so - RDZ is saying Tross is not at 100% and it being enough not to start him there’s obviously an issue at the moment. Maybe it’s just his usual winter SAD, maybe it was the WC - whatever, it’s resulted in increasing minutes on the bench or not coming in at all and at 28 yrs, that can’t be a satisfactory situation for Tross.

At least Brighton have triggered the 12 months extension on his contract but you get the feeling that’s not going to renewed beyond 2024. At this point, it would probably have been be good business sense to have got Tross to agree to a Release Clause in that extension too given the amount of time left on the contract!

I wouldn’t like to see him leave but if he’s not happy, Brighton may be open to January offers - I guess a lot depends on the situation with Facu and whether he will go straight into the squad after Columbia, whether RDZ wants Fergie as a regular starter and who else might turn up in the January window, not forgetting Lallana of course, who is playing very well too at the moment, Welbz returning from injury, and Moder who is set to return in February.

It would not surprise me tbh if it were announced this window that an offer for Tross has been accepted by Brighton from Newcastle or even Chelsea. Although on Tross’s present form, a European club, like Madrid, might be more realistic scenario - whenever he goes, and he will at some point, I still hope he gets a Champions club because he’s certainly good enough and it would help Brighton’s growing reputation as a destination Club for young Champions hopefuls!

Trossard has ALWAYS blown hot and cold, this dip in form is nothing new. I'd be very sad and disappointed to see him leave off the back of a few ropy performances during a VERY small window since the PL resumed.

When he's on his game he is a joy to watch, absolutely sublime. There's no reason to assume he's not going to regain form - if he does it in someone elses shirt, we will regret it.

Calm down - no one is ‘assuming he’s not going to regain form’! if he doesn’t go this window, he will almost certainly go in the Summer and it certainly won’t be ‘off the back of a few ropey performances’ but because Trossard wants a Big 7 club and a chance to play Champions League football.. Our top players will always be moving on now (unless we become a Champions Club) so people need to get used to it. There’s absolutely no point in hanging onto players if they don’t want to be here. Have we ever lost players and not got better ones?

The only player I’ve ever regretted loosing was DB - at the time I thought he was underrated and Newcastle got him too cheap which I found depressing (apart from being pleased for him he’d returned ‘home’) - we hit a real barren time straight after that which lasted weeks and it screwed up our back line for a while too.

Should start against Liverpool. Has shown over and over that he likes to toy with Trent & co.

While I'm sure RDZ is right that he isn't 100%, I also find it a little unfair if we judge him on performances in a role where he is ok but not as good as when he is LWB/LW.

I don’t think anyone is ‘judging him’ for not scoring goals or having one of his usual dips in form - at least I am certainly not I’ve often said it is unfair to judge Tross as a ‘striker’ when he is a MF. My point is that if he is no longer happy at Brighton, and if he’s not getting the amount of match time he wants, he might not be - then there is no point in the Club trying to hang on to him. That’s all.

Edit - he is ‘suffering something after the WC’ according to RDZ but he couldn’t clarify whether it was mental or physical just that ‘I am a coach and have to play with the best 11 possible‘.
