Current standings have us and Burnley with near identical records with only the fact they have a better GD than us putting them 2nd

If, and it is not beyond the realms of possibility here, we end up with the same points and GD, what is next in determining league position?

Goals scored? Well even that is the same right now, although I guess if we pull back the -4 GD we will probably end up scoring more than them.

Games won? Again, currently the same

Record against each other? Both draws

Can we get promoted on alphabetical order? :lolol:

Current records:

Burnley: P43 W23 D15 L5 F67 A35 GD32 PTS84
Brighton: P43 W23 D15 L5 F67 A39 GD28 PTS84

Wish it was alphabetical order. That would be truly hilarious and Dyche's fat head would explode.

I suspect the final decider would be a coin toss.

Won't happen though, for us to catch the 4 goals up and us have exactly the same For and Against would involve some pretty freak results.

9 Method of Determining League Positions

9.1 At the end of each Season the Club in each Division scoring the highest number of points shall be declared the Champion Club of that Division. Three points shall be awarded for each League Match won. One point will be awarded to each Club for a drawn match. If two or more Clubs have scored the same number of points their position in the Division shall be determined on goal difference, that is to say, the difference between the total number of goals scored by and against a Club in League Matches in that Season, and the higher or highest placed Club shall be the Club with the highest goal difference. If any two or more Clubs have scored the same number of points and have the same goal difference the higher or highest placed Club shall be the Club having scored the most goals in League Matches in that Season.

9.2 If two or more Clubs have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored the highest placed Club shall be determined by the respective League records against each other, taking into account in order of precedence, points gained, goal difference and goals scored. If the above procedures do not separate the Clubs, then the Clubs concerned shall play off a deciding League Match or Matches under arrangements approved by the Board on a neutral ground. The net gate money after deducting the usual match expenses shall be equally divided between the two competing Clubs. Any Club staging such a play off match shall be entitled to charge as an expense against the receipts of the match 10% of the gross gate receipts after deduction of Value Added Tax. In the event of such a match being arranged by the Board to be played on the ground of a Club which is not a member of The League, then a similar charge as an expense against the receipts of the match shall be paid by The League who shall otherwise be responsible for the financial arrangements made with the Club staging the match. These provisions shall determine the ranking of Clubs in their respective Divisions.

we currently have an inferior goal diff to burnley and same goals scored, if we overhaul the goal diff, we surely will score more than them in doing so and (with the 2 games drawn) will be above them on goals scored (if goal diff ends up the same)

We win one game 2-0, one 3-0 and lose one 0-1

They win two games 2-1 and lose one 1-3

Not very likely, but they're not freak results

Yup, that'd do it......

Brighton: P46 W25 D15 L6 F72 A40 GD32 PTS90
Burnley: P46 W25 D15 L6 F72 A40 GD32 PTS90

Burnley 1-1 Brighton
Brighton 2-2 Burnley

Play-off it is.

Full rules:

1) Point difference
2) Goal difference
3) Goals scored
4) Games played against each other (we drew home and away!)
5) Alphabetical order.

So yes, if Preston win tonight 4-0, we go above them purely on alphabetical order.

However, whole you can get league position on alphabetical order, if it affect promotion you have to have a play off game. I think if that happened (and it's possible, though unlikely this season) it would be the first time ever.
