Bristol City have signed Crewe striker Nicky Maynard on a four-year contract for a club record fee of £2.25m.

The 21-year-old started out at Crewe as a trainee and scored 35 goals in 57 starts, including 11 in nine games at the end of last season.

He is expected to make his debut in Friday's friendly against Belgian side Royal Antwerp on Friday.

Maynard becomes City's second signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielder Gavin Williams from Ipswich.

*avoiding the "f" word* yeah it was posted yesterday under a thread title of something like 'Crewe lose Maynard but gain £2.25m'. It's a hell of a lot of money, and would think they still need someone to play alongside him; haven't they let a few decent strikers go? Can't see Trundle playing alongside him, surely they would need someone more physical? Mifsud would have been good for that I reckon.

Isn't Mifsud about 5 foot 4 and nicknamed the mosquito? Maybe not the physical presence you mention.

Kerry broke that guys leg on the opening day last year didn't he.
Glad Maynards not playing against us this season. I remember him tearing us apart at Withers a couple of years ago.

Indeed. A big bonus for us, hopefully they dont have a chance to replace him in the next week.

Whos Elding? Zola is alright but not half the player Maynard is.
Anthony Elding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dario Gradi said he'd only sign if Maynard went, they signed him a couple of weeks ago. Course neither of them are a patch on Maynard but they never would've been able to get someone as good, they might get as many as he would've between them. Plus I remember at Withdean last season their strikeforce was extremely lightwieght, Zola will certainly give them some strength at least.

David Bentley is at "the club of his dreams", supported them his whole life" much the same as any other new signing at a club

except that he started at their arch enemies youth academy (Arsenal).

Wonder how long that'll take to start being a millstone.

So thinking about it now what does that value Murray at now?

Surely £300,000 dosen't look that bad?

completely agree. I reckon Murray will show his true colours this season. He always looks grumpy though and doesnt seem that friendly with the other players. hopefully the increased morale in the squad will convince him that BHA are the right club for him. I would hate to lose him
