Bollocks idea, if a player has done something worthy of a red card he should be off. Not given the chance to carry on after a set amount of time :shootself

Well, maybe if it dont affect players getting yellows and reds it will be ok. But then again sending someone in the sin bin for arguing with the ref of time wasting etc is abit pathetic, they should be carded.

I cant see it working.

Anyone who watches hockey/rugby here? Whats it like for other sports?

What we will get is the tactical use of violence to preserve a lead.

Players will think "What the hell, it's only a ten minute suspension. It used to be three whole games".

you could get sin binned due to a ref mistake your team lets in 3 goals and you lose, cant ask the refs to be put under more pressure

It wouldn't be necessary if referees didn't bottle talking to players and getting the card out.

I see at least two major problems with this. The first is that this is described as an alternative (not a replacement) for red cards. So presumably red cards would still exist which is going to introduce all sorts of confusion about what offense qualifies for a red card vs. 10 minutes on the bench vs. 5 minutes on the bench or whatever. It will be very difficult to enforce the rule with any kind of consistency. The second problem is that since the official clock doesn't stop when the play stops during a game (the ref adds time at the end for stoppages instead) it's going to be hard to determine just how much time the player has sat out. You could see his team just taking their time with taking throw-ins, for example, just to minimize the amount of the time that the ball is actually in play while they are a man down.
Just my $0.02 worth.
