I'm pretty sure the club would have to pay people to turn up to sell out a league cup round two game.

Really? We sell out a lot of league matches we have no Europe so if you wanna see the team play its games like this you need to get in there. Im sure we can surpass 30k and if we are struggling past 20k then why not give Crawley more than the presumably 3k away allocation Im sure they will bring more if then are given more. Its ot like they have to come far!

Don’t agree. Kids holidays, great opportunity for something to do. Parents taking kids to their first games etc if priced correctly. Opportunity for those that miss out on Premier League games. Give Crawley 8k tickets for all I care, I’d still expect to beat them comfortably. But I think we can get 25k - 30k if we play the cards right

Palace was freezing cold start of January when no one has any money and it was priced as a Category A game. If I recall there was a train strike and we were already playing them twice in the league anyway.

What I’m saying is we have none of those factors for this game. Make it £20 an adult and kids for a tenner, give Crawley a large allocation and I think we’ll come close to a sell out

Last time we had a home league cup game the attendance didn't reach 9,000 never mind 30,000.
The two occasions prior to that were against Southampton and Aston Villa (teams normal people might actually be interested in seeing us play) and fewer than 15,000 turned up each time.

Crawley took 7,000 to the goldstone and with recent promotion success Im sure they could bring more than the usual presumably 3,000 allocation.

Did quite a few palace come down in 92 with Crawley ?

I think there are a fair few Palace that live in Crawley area maybe a few will come down?

Not so sure. 15k Max I reckon. I’m pretty certain our highest attendance for a League Cup game at the Amex is approximately 17k v Gillingham - which was our first mid-week fixture played there, so understandable. Most have been below 10k. Can’t see any reason why we’d sell this out tbh.

Considering Crawley have been to some big teams in cup matches, I'm not sure this would be a pull for much beyond their usual home crowd. It's an early League Cup tie. If it was the 5th round of the FA Cup then maybe.

I'm going to estimate wildly and loosely and say a total crowd of 15,000.

You have to remember that they were non-league back then, a trip to the Goldstone was huge for them, the FA Cup was still a big thing, plus it was a Saturday afternoon. No way will they bring anything close to 7k this time.

Derby v Chesterfield surprisingly only had 8,500 last night which for a Derbyshire er, derby was amazingly low. Maybe the ticketing was too high? But then the League Cup is not included in season tickets either I read like it almost always used to.

All the games in the cup are on Sky Sports+ which might lower the attendance a little bit, but nothing beats being there. I think as its on TV the club will have to lower prices to encourage a larger attendance.
