I once had a chat with a lawyer on a train back from an away game. I did ask him how do lawyers reconcile defending the indefenceable. He said he couldnt speak for everyone but he dealt with it from his belief and support for the UK judiciary system and this is based on a series of ideas...one of them being everyone is allowed to defend themselves in court. If people werent allowed to defend themselves then the system is clearly open to abuse and courts become little more than kangaroo courts. He made a number of comments about how the law system isnt perfect but he felt the ideas it is based on were. It was a fascinating conversation.
