Lawro just admitted he used to play for Brighton. Without being asked. On 5live.

Are you sure.???

Yep - he reffered to "Nobby Horton, my old mate from Brighton", while previewing Arsenal v Hull. I am wide awake, and did not dream it.

Why is this a shock ?

Well, let's put it like this [excuse the non-too subtle, TLO-style namedrop]...

Many years ago I was introduced to 'Lawro' in a bar, where he was drinking with Frank Stapleton.

'It's great to meet you, Mark,' I said, excitedly. 'I'm a big Albion fan'.

'What', he replied, 'Brighton or West Brom?'

*sigh*

I can actually visualise the resigned slump in your shoulders when that happened.
I hope you thought of a witty and withering retort. Or perhaps you just gobbed in his Hofmeister ?

Why is this a shock ?

Umm, maybe the fact that he bangs on about playing for Preston and Liverpool...but conveniently omits the club who plucked him from obscurity and put him on the road to success!

I suspect he is either suffering from guilt, or more likely pre-senile dementure has set in and he no longer has full control of his memory.

I imagine he had to do it for a forfeit from some lad's drinking game earlier today. There is no way he'd just blurt it out without a bit of cajoling followed by a curt and embarrassed "yeah I did play for them once" before extolling Liverpool and Preston's virtues.

do you think might be there wen falmer opens as he always turns up for our big moments

I hope not.

I met him at a sporting dinner on the Island about 5-6 years ago and when I asked him would we ever get Falmer approved, he simply answered "no chance, it will never happen". I then asked why and he ignored me and turned to chat to someone else.

There again maybe it would be nice to see him there and throw his comment back in his face.

i've noticed a few comments along these lines lately, seems he's started to acknowledge his time at Brighton more.

those who dont get this, in time gone by he's mention PNE and Liverpool and seemed to overlook the 4 years inbetween. i dont think its malicious, reckon Preston was his home club, so he cherished tht more.

That's nothing - after the Thierry Henry incident, some of his newspaper columns almost revealed the fact that he played for Ireland, and not England.
