After long deliberations have decided to go ahead with Lasting Power of Attorney for both Health and Welfare and Property and Finance via a solicitor rather than doing it ourselves via the gov.uk website.
Anyone got any local/Brighton/ Worthing recommendations and also total costs…thanks.

We used Britton & Time in Hove (because they have a tie-up with a school/charity I’m heavily involved in)……..they were very good. Can’t pinpoint the cost of the PoAs in isolation because we did some other stuff at the same time but they’ll quote before doing the work anyway

I've been through this process recently. I definitely would not recommend the Solicitor I used!

It does not need a solicitor. You can do it on line perfectly well without one.

My parents used A R Brown Solicitors in Worthing. Found them really supportive and caring, and much more reasonably priced than a Brighton solicitor.

My sister uses A R Brown and is happy with their service.

But as others have mentioned, easy to d-i-y it.

Easy to do it yourself. Me and brother have done this for my Dad and Uncle in the last 18 months

Another vote for DIY, easy via the gov website unless you have any special circumstances, no need to pay >£500. Try the website, no cost unless you submit the applications (which have to have wet signatres)

Very easy to do online. No need for solicitor. Well done for doing. If you’ve children as next of kin you’ve just saved them a monumental nightmare in the event…

Definitely…..daughter is a nurse working in palliative care, the nightmares are very real.

It’s been a 7 year battle for me, more stress and pain than I could ever summarise. We’ve been through the mill. And some. Like watching the Albion, it’s knocked years off my life for sure. Has made me ill physically and mentally throughout with lasting consequences. Anybody over 50 without one is frankly negligible. Especially if have kids.

Yep and thank you. The potential scenarios encountered with old age and illness are inconceivable to anyone not with one in place, that thinks they may not need. You are not the same person, you may not even recognise who you end up being with old age.

Best get it done, anyone reading this thread who’s got it on their to do list really ought to cancel tonight’s plans and just get it done. Before too late, because something may literally happen tomorrow and your world is suddenly very different and you’re no longer in control. Nor are your nearer and dearest. Think about that for a second. Government agencies are, and would you want that…?!! Precisely…!

You've made the correct decision - I've done a couple myself and thought or assumed they were fine and relatively easy. Then we did ours with a solicitor who pointed out a fair few issues that we were hadn't considered. Like many things, of course you can do it DIY but it's a really important thing to do so why not do it properly. You may not find out that you haven't thought of evertyhing until it's too late.

You can do it properly without a solicitor.
