grey hairs? so there’s a bonus for you, grey is so very distinguished my friend.I'm not that old mate! Someone called round tonight to see if I was OK. They said they'd never seen anybody look so frightened and white in the face as last night. It's added a few grey hairs to my sideburns though.
P.S - i’m grey haired not that influences my above comment

I broke my neck in a car crash about 32 years ago. I was the passenger, car into a tree and the big ones don't have much give in them!
Mate was driving and panicked, but managed to reverse back out and drive me a short distance to another mates house (I was unconscious). Came round at that point and was going to go home but they both persuaded me to get checked at hospital. Into another car and I just felt a bit of a pain in the chest of all places. Hospital doctor was going to send me home and then at the last minute sent me off for an X Ray. I knew I was in the shit when the radiographer escorted me back to A&E. Sat me on a bed and told me to not move at all. He went off and about ten seconds later about 6 medics came in strapped me in some sort of brace, down on a bed, couldn't move at all. 6 weeks on traction staring at the ceiling didn't work so had to have an op where they put a wire through some of my neck bones and then used bone from my hip to help the repair. I had two bones in my neck (C2 and C3) fracture and dislocate but the op fused these together. Had I gone home they said I would probably have just died in the night at some point. As it happens I have been lucky, neck doesn't give me any trouble. Haven't been in a car without headrests since then!

I don’t drive so have no opinions about how this could have happened or been avoided and would anyway think it would not appropriate to comment either way if I had.
I also don’t have the war stories of horrific accident injuries to share either.
I would say though having had several near death experiences in my life - the being in ‘shock’ is a real phenomenon and can have a physical and psychological impact.
Years ago, I was crossing a pelican crossing on my lunch break on a busy part of the Lewes Road - I got nearly half way across and a red car, seemingly out of nowhere was suddenly bearing down on me, breaks screeching, smell of burning rubber as it skimmed pass me, feeling the displaced air brushing past my face, someone on the kerb screaming as it went passed me. It was heading through a red light at over 30 miles an hour - missed me by millimetres. It came to a stop further up the road, then immediately drove on. Black skid marks on the road. Then me floating back to work in a silent cotton wool feeling of unreality.
For a week after, I walked around in a daze with periods of false ‘lucidity’ thinking I had actually died that day but not understanding why I could still see and hear people. I never told anyone what had happened - had flashbacks for years. I think I should have spoken to someone about what happened tbh.
Thank goodness you were not hurt but look after yourself - the shock of an experience like that can be mind boggling

Christ - glad you're ok!
Someone very close to me rolled a car a long time ago. Said it was the scariest thing they've ever been through and the shock didn't hit until the evening. So take it easy!

Seems like there's a few Albion fans living in Penland Road! But then again it is the longest road in Haywards Heath! Often see fans on matchdays.
Will try and get some sleep tonight. I'll just think of Mitoma's happy face when he been scoring lately. That should work.

Just glad you’re okay mate. Shame about the twatty replies from a handful of tossers. Make sure you’re getting lots of rest, as others have said delayed shock/trauma is a very real thing. If you can, assign tomorrow as a duvet day…

Take it easy and look after yourself, shock is a weird thing. Someone up there is definitely looking after you though! If you see lottery numbers in a dream, write them down and share here please. Good to hear you have only minor physical injuries though.

I was a passenger in a car on a Sussex country B road that rolled a couple of times after the back kicked out going round a bend.
I really did think my game was up at this point, and just braced myself for what I believed to be the inevitable. Just totally helpless.
Car eventually settled on its roof on the road - very close to a ditch. Managed to get out OK, but the seatbelt took a bit of work to get undone.
Police turned up and helped out. Took a look at the car, and noticed it was a cut and shut.... could have been a lot worse.
Thankfully its never affected me. I've always been a bit of a shoulder shrugger.

Glad to hear you're OK, albeit a bit shaken up still.
A dear friend of mine was killed in a huge crash on the M62 a few years ago - a victim of thick fog and a busy motorway. He and his mate came to a stop with all the other cars when there was a big pileup ahead, but the lorry behind just didn't slow down...
I've been in a couple of minor prangs myself, so know how it feels. A friend at college was driving his Suzuki jeep and pulled out of a junction, not seeing a car coming along. Took the full brunt on the front drivers side and we were spun round like a top. Suffered whiplash for a while but thankfully we were both OK.
As a driver I hit a young Celeste (thankfully she was ok!), and even though I was only doing about 20mph she was thrown right over the car and made a huge mess of the front screen and roof. Shook me up for days, even though there was nothing I could've done as she ran out from behind a parked van.
Speed isn't always a factor in accident outcomes, even the smallest ones can cause a lot of damage & stress.

Apologies if my drink driving comment was clumsy . I thought it was obvious that you had not been drinking as you would not have been posting on here . On a thread about accidents it was a reminder to everyone. I am so pleased that you are ok .

In my experience, PTSD can hang around for months and months after an incident like this one. Keep an eye on it and make sure you've got healthy coping mechanisms - posting on here can definitely be one of them. Accidents happen, don't beat yourself up about it - what's done is done. We're all glad you're able to come on here and tell the tale. Recover well young man.
