It might be too late now but there is an app called My Vegas (i think) where you can play slots/blackjack for fun and you earn rewards which you can get 2-1 buffet offers or free rides on the New York New York rollercoaster. My daughter played for ages before she went in January and got loads of vouchers.

The Mirage, just wanted to do it big, as it’s probably one of our last ‘major’ family holidays.

One of the few I’ve not managed to stay in as one of my friend that’s comes every year is massively anything anti animal captivity, so I’m quite jealous you are.

Honestly - groupon is your friend whilst there - so many discounts on there.

Also if you are a thrill seeker the rides on the stratosphere are crazy - pre- book online as it’s a lot cheaper.

Also top golf is fun for a few hours.

Good shout, I’ve got about 150000 coins - plan to use them for comp stay.
One Teddy Maybank - sign up to the casinos membership (there is only about two for the whole strip) they give you loads of free stuff

Didn’t even know they had a zoo until after we booked, our room is facing the volcano which was the main draw, plus the fact it seemed cheaper than the others.

Sorry to be thick, is it like one membership covers a number of casinos?

If you want an experience try stratosphere, mad rides and if your brave enough you gain jump offf the top attached to a wire that decelerates you.

Amazingly you cannot take your camera on the Grand Canyon Skywalk but theirs will happily work and charge you for a photo.

Grand Canyon is amazing

Been there twice but last time was a few years back (2011).
Good idea to fly to the canyon.
Visit the old town at dusk to see the light show.
Check out one of the Outlet Shopping Centres. I bought a load of Levi 501's at 25$US. Very cheap stuff.

There is the biggest arcade museum in the world there, pinball machines from the 60's onwards, and all the arcade games from your youth in a huge warehouse, And you can play them all ! spent a good afternoon there.

Don't waste your time going to the 'Pawn Stars' shop if you're a fan of the TV series. It's tiny, dirty, and full of tat !!

I've stayed at the Venetian, Encore and Tropicana (for one night - when Virgin cancelled our flight). Encore was superb, Venetian was excellent, Tropicana was the 'Butlins' of the strip. I'd recommend a walk round the inside of the Venetian in the evening, it's lovely.

Been there 3 times, once as a meet up place for spending a week in the Grand Canyon and twice for stag nights. Great place for a celebration as everybody seems in a good mood and determined to enjoy themselves. American excess at its best - you'll have a great time. It seemed to me that the hotels and restaurants are subsidized by the gambling so prices were pretty reasonable - and a lot of stuff is free like just walking up and down the strip and taking in the sights like the fountains at the Bellagio. Saw a programme about it on Discovery and they said some of the slots pay out as much as 98% of what they take - so that's how you can play for a while without losing much. One thing that was disappointing is that a lot of casinos no longer pay out a large win on the slots, say $50, in 200 quarters. It just spits out a ticket which you cash in at the cashiers - but you still get the chink chink soundtrack!

Do the sky jump off the stratosphere , have done it 3 times now , the last time back in December , 855ft amazing . 24hr bus pass $8 on strip or buy it just off the strip for $5.
Get bus 203 by fashion show mall and travel up past china town to visit the massive Walmart and across the road is target and also the international house of pancakes (ihop) fill up on breakfast or brunch for the rest of the day .
Recommend the night time helicopter flight over the strip
Can’t wait to go back again and booked for December gonna stay flamingo this time as did treasure island a couple of months ago which do seem to have the best player rewards scheme

Do not go there it’s an absolute shit hole. No atmosphere. Not worth it - they used to do one dollar beers but think that’s stopped now. Beers are vile.

If you want cheap gambling go to old Las Vegas Fremont street they all have 5 dollar blackjack. Main strip also does in same places during the week day during the day.

When you get a taxi from airport there are two routes so make sure they take you the cheaper route. Saves 10 dollars straight away.

If you like golf do the Taylor made experience. Group on used to have very cheap deals. We paid 100 for four people 9 holes, two buggy’s and some beers. Also top golf is okay but insanely expensive there.

Would recommend the pool parties for your son ha. MGM is just mad.

Went there for my 40th and did white water rafting down the Canyon, not the greatest experience at the time of year we did it (opens in April) as the water levels are still high and was bitterly cold.
Went back ten years later at the start of a 3 week road trip for me and my now wife. We got married in Lake Tahoe but started off in Vegas. Not much change over the ten years except the cost of things, found it quite expensive 4 years ago.
We had a suite at the Venetian, went down for breakfast the first day and got charged $60. Ouch!

I did a few shows as well. The Bee Gees tribute band were good after a few drinks. The casino's are all impressive looking buildings from the outside, but are all very similar when you go inside them.

One word of advice, don't stray away from walking along the strip. The beggars and down and outs will try quite forcefully to give them a tip.

The hoover dam and Grand Canyon tour is well worth spending 1 day on.

In the summer its extremely hot, but you can walk the strip going in and out the casinos which have cool air conditioning.

Don't gamble what you cant afford as your unlikely to win.
Well that depends if you know what you are doing surely? unless it’s rigged to the hilt in Vegas. I’m quite good at a certain casino game quite fancy a go out there one day. Also the other half wants to get married :)

I'm also going out to Vegas for the first time in May for our Wedding anniversary, kids staying at home with the in-laws!
Not sure where we're staying yet, looking at a few (Flamingo, MGM - that kind of price range) for 4 nights. Also looking to do a day tour to the Canyon, so all of this advice you guys are giving is great!

Research Happy hours! And food venues.

Ocean One in Planet Hollywood offer cheap food and 2 cocktails $10 and Blondies in the same place does a $20 all you can drink happy hour.

If you're wandering around and fancy a Bevvy Nip into CVS or Woollies - They sell cold singles and will save you a fortune! Everywhere will let you in with the drinks too.

Again if you're gambling take advantage of the waitress service. Free drinks! Just remember to tip at least a dollar if you want them to come back to you.

Shows;
Carrot Top (Luxor). - Wasn't sure what to expect but found it slightly hilarious. (may have been the booze).
Le Reve (The Wynn)) - Amazing show - lighting sound acrobatics - Must see!
Absinthe - (Caesars palace) - Brilliant - Funny, rude, intimate - Again a must see.
Chris Angel (Luxor - May have gone now) - Wouldn't recommend - Loud shouty and nothing you probably haven't seen before.

There are big red booths selling last min tickets you migh get cheaper and also I used Vegas.com to research too. Failing that some hotels do multi buy discounts if they are in the same venue.

It's easy to spend an insane amount of money! But also if you do your research and are a little savvy. Especially around happy hours you can save your self a mint too. I spent around half what I budgeted last May by doing a little research.

One final point.. Taxi's - If you already use UBER they are every where. - They have dedicated pick up and drop off points at hotels. (not the main reception though. If you aren't people hand out flyers for them and Lyft - your get a $10 free ride if you sign up. So if there's a few of you.. Could save again a few $$$ on Taxi fares..

Enjoy! I'm going back in September!

It's easy to spend an insane amount of money
