Surely with wetness being the issue here you'd be an incontinent drip ?

Strange, always found them very reliable but each to their own

i always thought they were...bought 3 (one each) for the kids Christmas before last...one had to have 2 new chargers after about 9 months, then died completely in February this year...another one caught fire last weekend...daughter turned it on (not even plugged in) and the smoke just billowed out with a horrible burning smell from the hard drive...so just one left!

Bought myself the new Compaq from PC world last weekend...£350 I think, the one in their offer...could pay £80 more but just got a slightly bigger hard drive (and I use an external one to back up and store things on anyhow) and a shiny cover...so didnt bother. Only thing is that its Vista! and finding things aren't compatible such as being able to synchronise with my Palm PDA...according to Palm website a known problem and a patch will be available soon!

Oh, guess who designs Apples laptops? Sony....

Sorry to piss on your fire MYOB, but you're talking bollocks.

Apple's industrial design for the last several years has been performed entirely in-house by Apple's Industrial Design Group, led by Jonathan Ive.

Sony have nothing to do with Apple, apart from being a supplier of very dodgy batteries that also happened to affect Dell and other laptop manufacturers.

I think it's about time you got rid of that anti-Apple chip off your shoulder and started feeling the Apple Fanboi love. ;)

Do NOT get a toshiba

Really? How old was yours when it died then?
I use a Toshiba at work, and it's still going strong after 3 years, and that's having had a lot of work on it.

Basically 9-5, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year for 3 years, it's been ploughing through stuff with me. PLUS, I take it around, take it home, use it at the weekend, it gets dropped, it gets cold (when I forget, and leave it in the car overnight) and yet it's still rumbling on.

Starting to slow a bit now, and leaving it on stand-by does drain the battery far quicker than it should, but for the hours of usage it's had, it's been remarkably durable.

I'm in the market for a new laptop for home, and I'm rather keen on Toshiba, because of how this little beauty has performed.

External design is done by Apple. Internals are all Sony, and have been since the first Powerbook. Apples laptops before the Powerbook were some god awful one that needed mains power, and one that ran on car batteries (I'm being serious!!!). Then Sony came along and they got a lot smaller.... an awful lot smaller. The original Powerbook 100 was a "Sony Powerbook" at that.

My little lovely thing is only 2, and i've had to replace the charger, and now it's been sent off to have the fan replaced, and it could have hardware damage too. It's been at the fixer people for a week, theyve charged me £120 already, and haven't done a thing as yet!

Really upset about it :(

:( That's not good.

My fan is often a bit noisy on my Toshiba, but it's never failed me *touching wood*

Lenovo (used to be IBM) Thinkpads are excellent. Tough as old boots, not very pretty but built for hard work.

Personally if I had the money I'd buy an HP as they are so hard wearing. They are IMHO the best built PCs but cost more than the likes of Dell.
