Laptop processor advice

Hello all.

OK so my fairly bog standard HP laptop is struggling to deal with 2.7k Gopro files when trying to edit in Sony Vegas.

What is least stressful and least expensive way to sort this?

Installing a lightweight version of Linux such as Lubuntu or Linux Lite and using a free editor such as Kdenlive or Openshot would be a free solution.

Light versions of Linux use next to no system resources compared to Windows.
