carrick didn't want to go...that's why

Think its understandable, but he said he'd join if England needed him and he was actually going to play rather than sit on the bench each game.

Surely with Lampard out he's guaranteed to start if we play 4-2-3-1 for the group games. Sitting with Parker taking over Lampards role with Gerrard still in the hole?

Johnson Cahill Terry Cole

I would have taken Carrick if Lampard is unavailable. But his attitude toward England means he isn't worthwhile to take in the squad. Leon Brittain could have had a call. But Jordan Henderson is the under 21 captain, and in my opinion, he's the regeneration of Lampard already.

Sorry but I don't think we should go cap in hand begging Carrick to reconsider. What example does that set? Its Carrick, not Messi.

Otherwise, like your 11.

he's clearly got a shit attitude in my view....if you let one player get away with saying "if i'm not starting then i don't want to be in the squad" it's going to cause absolute carnage as more players will just do that

you're right, he probably would start NOW after two players in front of him have become unavailable, but due to his attitude he can go swivel

if carrick had made himself available, turned up to training, impressed, played in friendlies, impressed, then maybe he WOULD have started

very few players in the england team are guaranteed starters, the rest have to fight for their places, if he can't be bothered doing that then f*** him....terrible attitude

For all those lamenting about Lampard and Barry, most fans slagged them during and after each tournament, so surely it's not the end of the World.

For example. WC 2006 was followed by a year of singing against Lampard "Where were you in Germany?"

and experts/fans hoped it was their end after Ozil, Mueller & Sweinstiger exposed those 2 as slow in 2010.

Carrick - won't go if not in starting 11. England cannot be held to ransom. He's no Paul Scholes despite the hype.

Anyone think England are missing Lampard?

Fair point...the one positive I took when Lampard got injured was "well, at least Gerrard will have space in his favourite position to take charge of games" which he did last night.

England having to play Parker and Gerrard in the middle and not having Lampard or Barry to try and squeeze in has worked wonders for them. Just hope Roy doesn't see it fit to bring Lampard back in when the WC qualifiers start and try to showhorn him in with Gerrard. With the amount of young players coming through there really is no need to have to go back to Lampard or even Barry for that matter
