we were f***ed anyway. Less of nothing is still nothing.

No No No. Not nothing. With Lampard we had something. I really don't rate him that much but you have to admit he's better than Henderson. Henderson FFS. God i hope they pick Adam Johnson. In the few minutes he played the other night he looked to have more skill than the rest of the midfield put to gether. I'd rather have him out of position than Henderson.

Really think people are over estimating Lampard's abilities in an England shirt

Not at all... i know Lampard is not the best for England however Henderson is dog shite... It's like swapping Emu for Orville...

I have not read the previous 4 pages of this thread.

But this is great news as it will mean Parker has to start centrally with Gerrard

And we wont get the Gerrard Lampard cant play together scenario coming up again :)

parker was always going to start in central midfield, probably with lampard and with gerrard "in the hole"

probably means a move for gerrard into central midfield and f*** knows who in the hole

COULD have the ox in the hole.........hodgson said he was impressed by his performance against milan in central midfield.......in which case i'd definitely take johnson

i would have young in the hole but then you have downing on the left......starting........

Controversial. Emu and Orville are very different types of player.

Fat Frank is way past his sell by date, and like so many of the "golden generation" (LOL!!), he hasn't performed as well internationally as he has at club level. You are right, Henderson isn't the answer. But f*** it, none of our over paid prima donna internationals are up to standard, so lets treat this tournament, and the next 2 or 3 years as an opportunity to blood the next generation in. People like The Ox, Josh Macheachran (sp), Nick Powell, Nathanial Clyne (yes, I said it, and I loathe myself for it ok!), and Conor Wickham. Why not? Germany did it a few years ago and it seems to have worked for them?

I despise this "they play for a big club, they must be good" mentality that all England managers seem to possess.
Henderson and Downing are simply not good enough- if they had played like they have this season for a team like Villa or Fulham they wouldn't even get a sniff.
I've said it so many times on here, but Leon Britton could have been the answer- creative, consistent and the highest pass completion rate in world football- how can we afford not to take someone that has been playing like this for a newly promoted club in the top tier of English football? I know he is getting on a bit now but for the love of christ, he is the closest we have to a Xabi Alonso/Xavi type of player. Hideous decision not to take him or at least have him on back-up instead of Jordan Henderson.

Leon Britton's pass-completion rate is so high because he never risks a pass of more than 6 yards, and most of his passes are sideways or back. He makes Liam Bridcutt look like Glenn Hoddle.

It's hardly a hideous decision not taking Britton is it.

Rodwell, McEachran, Shelvey, Lansbury- there are a few, but some are a bit further away from the first team than others.

Mc Eachran is probably the 'exciting one' I can't see much more than solid at international level from the other 3.
We may have to do another 2014 world cup squad thing after this tournament.

why not carrick ? finsihed top of the league (ok, 2nd on goal difference) and played a big part in that.

can actually control the pace of a game - intelligent player - needed at international level and bags of experience.

I'll look out for for Fat Frank sunning himself on the beach at Ferring, assuming he wanders out of his new seaside house. A blingy Range Rover in Ferring, who'd have thunk it? :lolol:

henderson ffs

As we all suspected when he was appointed as the safe option, Hodgson knows f*** all about the relative merits of players. Henderson? I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that.

Now confirmed

Euro 2012: England's Frank Lampard ruled out through injury [BBC]

England's Frank Lampard has been ruled out of Euro 2012 with a thigh injury suffered in training on Wednesday.

The news was confirmed after the Chelsea midfielder, 33, was examined by medical staff after a scan.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson will be called into the squad, subject to agreement from Uefa's medical team.

"It's a huge blow for the team, especially coming after the loss of another senior player in Gareth Barry," said manager Roy Hodgson.

"The fact that the doctor cannot guarantee Frank could take part in any of the group matches means we have to replace him in the central midfield area.

"Apart from it being a huge blow to me and the team, I'm especially disappointed for Frank himself," he added.

"He has been in very good form and was looking forward to the tournament. He made a huge contribution towards us qualifying for the Euros so it is cruel to be forced out through injury just before the tournament."

Chelsea's Lampard is one of the most experienced players Hodgson had to call upon, with 90 caps.

BBC Sport's chief football writer Phil McNulty believes Lampard's absence will be a big loss to the squad.

"Frank Lampard has occasionally been a maligned figure for England - but his loss from the Euro 2012 squad will be a heavy blow for manager Roy Hodgson," he said.

"Lampard has maturity, experience and continues to be a winner as proved by his vital role in Chelsea's Champions League and FA Cup victories.

"He may not have started England's first Euro 2012 game against France but his presence and professionalism around the squad is always beneficial and he would have been determined to force his way into the side."

If Henderson, 21, is allowed to replace Lampard then Liverpool will be the most represented club in Hodgson's squad, with five, despite a disappointing season which saw them 8th in the Premier League.
