Henderson might do a 'Hargreaves' and be our best player.

to be honest I'm not that worried at losing Lampard. I still rate him ahead of Gerrard at the top level but as squeaky has been chosen as captain he is obviously a starter which means Lampard either plays badly or not at all - doesn't matter who, no England manager ever got these 2 "top pro's" to be able to play together. Ssys a lot IMO.

Henderson coming in doesn't matter really as he won't play. Hodgson will hopefully establish a first 11 (twelve including Rooney) and then start them every game. That leaves 6 on the bench and the rest waiting in the team hotel. Sorted.

It's a weak England squad but I reckon we'll get out of the group. Hodgson has a decent record at getting the most out of limited resources at both club and international level.

Something that makes a change is that he doesn't appear to just be picking the 23 best available players. I'm assuming he's trying to pick the players that he thinks would make the best team instead.

This has to be the most depressingly average England squad ever assembled for a major tournament, I am so completely underwhelmed by this selection.

No offence to you, as you don't make the rules, but I don't give a toss what they are 'listed as'.

Muller, Klose, Podolski, Goetze, Gomez = FIVE strikers.

i'll accept that if you replace goetze (definitely a midfielder) with schurlle (possibly a striker)

my point was that they're only really taking 2 strikers and a load of attacking midfielders/support strikers because they're only playing with 1 up front (or 3, or even 4, depending on where you draw the line)...

anyway, whether or not they're strikers or midfielders, they've got some GOALS in them

Schurlle- 13 games, 6 goals
Podolski- 96 games, 43 goals (only 3 england players have scored more, and he's only 26)
Klose- 115 games, 63 goals (more than any england player EVER)
Muller- 26 games, 10 goals
Gomez- 51 games, 21 goals

compared to:

Rooney- 73 games, 28 goals
Carroll- 4 games, 1 goal
Defoe- 46 games, 15 goals
Welbeck- 4 games, 0 goals
Walcott- 23 games, 3 goals

Christ, that's a hell of a comparison, I'm off to ring the Samaritans this is just too much!

Is Henderson that bad? I know Lampard has got a good kick on him but surely Henderson can also launch the ball onto Carroll's bonce?

Calf injury, scan tomorrow likely to confirm he will miss tournament.

Henderson likely to be called up

Why bullshit. It is a thigh injury and they do not know the extent of the injury you minotaur.

No, no, no. He can't. Neither can Downing. That's why Carroll didn't score many goals when he was playing. What they like to do is pass to someone else and let them take the responsibility. It's so much easier and so much less scary.

Sorry . Is this important?

We're coming home, we're coming home, England's coming home!

Er, would I be right in thinking that, as Lampard was named in the final 23 submitted yesterday, that no-one else can be called up as a replacement? So, if he is out, we'll be going with 22?

I have not read the previous 4 pages of this thread.

But this is great news as it will mean Parker has to start centrally with Gerrard

And we wont get the Gerrard Lampard cant play together scenario coming up again :)

No injured players can still be replaced right upto the tournament

Exactly. But some people seem to think that Lampard is the be all and end all of the whole squad and England are "f***ed" without him

England always play better at tournaments when their "star" players are missing. Maybe we will find our best team instead of just picking our best 11 players. Could be a blessing in disguise.
