Lampard to miss Euros

Henderson would be another negative pick from Hodgson as replacement if Lampard doesn't make it.

We've already got effectively 3 1/2 strikers (given Rooney's ban) when we should have five, and replaced a midfielder with a centre-back. There is ample scope to bring in Adam Johnson, he's a potential matchwinner, and we're short of them.

if we're only playing with 1 up front (which i think we mainly will) then we don't need 5 strikers

for example, germany have only taken 3 strikers, one of them is podolski who mainly plays on the wing

Also Walcott can and probably should (on the basis he cannot cross) play up front and Young can play behind the main striker.

How can these people refuse to go as back up? Surely if the national side is the pinnacle of football, it is up to the national side who goes and who is on stand by.

Agreed. Cos they have these Champions League moulded egos from club level and are paid too much.

In some ways may be a blessing in disguise - time to move on from the old guard.
What is really depressing is the lack of depth in CM and few youngsters coming through. Is this the worst England side ever ?

(please bounce this if we win the tournament !)

Is that right? I've not seen their squad, but surely Goetze, Gomez, Podolski, Muller and Klose are ALL in it?

Henderson might do a 'Hargreaves' and be our best player.

Maybe.

hargreaves was actually a good player though, it's just he wasn't given the recognition from the media as he didn't play in england at the time...........he was, however, playing regularly for bayern munich and won the champions league with them

in terms of technical ability he was quite far ahead of a lot of english midfield due to having received german coaching........he'd walk into the team now if only he could get himself fit

And he kept being played at right back for England

Correct. The '3' doesn't include Muller (who scores for fun for Germany) or Goetze, essentially a forward. And Podolski is a proven striker in major championships.

I would have CM is where England have the MOST strength in depth, especially considering all the injuries and people making themselves unavailable

Milner Carrick Barry Lampard Gerrard Parker ? don't see any worldbeaters there Gerrard and Lampard a few years ago. Parker is pick of the bunch - whos coming through other than Wilshire ?

klose, gomez and podolski are listed as strikers....the others are all midfielders........gomez and klose are certainly their only "out and out" strikers

they'll most likely play with muller, ozil and podolski as attacking midfielders behind gomez/super miroslav

depends on where you draw the line between 'attacking midfielder' and 'forward' really

(according to the uefa website, muller and schurlle are listed as strikers)

England don't have many Worldbeaters full stop. Gerrard, Parker, Barry, Lampard, Milner, Carrick, Britton, Wilshere, Rodwell, Henderson, Cleverly and that's before you add in the players who can fill in there like Jones or Jagielka

England just don't have that number of options anywhere else

How can anyone say this will HINDER our chances from getting out of the group? I will be f***ing ECSTATIC if Lampard is out of the Euros. Playing Gerrard and Lampard together, as the media would inevitebly pressure Hodgson into doing, has brought me nothing but MISERY for the past 10 years. They can't play together. FACT. Anyone who doubts this look at any England performance since they have been shoehorned into the team together. Anyone saying that he will bring the good form into the Championship that he showed in the Champions League, will that be the same good form he bought into the World Cup in 2006 after Chelsea had won the Premiership? He looks OVERWEIGHT. He is OLD. He has consistently been SHIT for England for years.

I would much prefer someone different playing in the team maybe Premier League WINNER James Milner? Someone who was willing to do a job for the team rather than his own personal ego. I suspect we will look a much better team and cruise through the group. Jordan Henderson can come in and be a reserve, fine, who knows - maybe an international tournament will bring out the best in him?

In conclusion. f*** 'LAMPS'.

Calf injury, scan tomorrow likely to confirm he will miss tournament.

Henderson likely to be called up

Yippee! Now all we need is Terry and Gerrard to follow him. Time to bring in a new generation in preperation for the World Cup! Let the youngsters play free of pressure in the Euros to get experience.

The 'golden' generation have had their chances....and f***ed em all up...good n proper.

No offence to you, as you don't make the rules, but I don't give a toss what they are 'listed as'.

Muller, Klose, Podolski, Goetze, Gomez = FIVE strikers.
