Not overly upset that Gus would go to Norwich (and almost inevitably be sacked a year or two later) but the thought of Vicente playing in yellow and green does my head in :censored::censored:

That would be my worry, too. Not so much with Gus going, which will inevitably happen at some time, but the fact that if he does go, then Vicente won't be coming back to grace our lives for at least another season. Class like that will never be replaced.

amen to that :(

Lambert may well live to regret taking the Villa job if he decides to do so. I understand that the chairman is a very difficult sort to work for/with. Ask Martin O' Neil and others. all this talk of Gus going to the premiership, he's not ready.

Which is why you cannot believe anything about football managers and their ambitions. Only last week Lambert said he was absolutely settled at Norwich and gave all the suggestions he was staying. Rodgers too, "don't want to talk to Liverpool, job to do here etc". It's all posturing and I guess when they know people will come sniffing making themselves appear hard to get, even more desirable and puts price up.

Only saying it because lots here saying Gus won't go to xxxxxxx because he said .......................................... Gus will go to the first Prem club that come looking I reckon. He's ambitious and if he wants to Manage at the very top he's got to make the move at some point ... it doesn't really matter who it is just as long as he can get there and do a job which exceeds the expectations of those who'll look at him next

This. I think he'll take any half reasonable Prem job. There's no guarantee that he'll get the Albion up, far easier to take an offer of immediate prem management, otherwise he might not get another offer if next season here isn't anything special.

Bollox does it. Not in a million years would Poyet consider going to either Norwich or Swansea. Some people live on a very strange planet.

That's a pretty impressive set of blinkers you're wearing.

Brighton are 16-1 to win the League next season, which roughly translates to a 3-1 (or 25pc) chance of being a Premier League side this time next year.

Norwich (2-1), Swansea (3-1) and Villa (7-1) are all odds-against for relegation, representing 66pc, 75pc and 88pc chances of still being Premier League sides this time next year.

Given that he has no great emotional ties to the club (ie. as ex-legendary player, lifelong fan etc) he'd need to be certifiable not to think very carefully about any of those jobs *IF* he is offered one, and would probably conclude that it's a chance he can't miss. I suspect there may be just enough people ahead of him on each shortlist to mean that he doesn't get the call, but he's a live candidate. If any PL side does come in for him, he'd need to be extraordinarily loyal, or stupid, not to take the certainty of a PL job immediately over the 1-in-4 chance that we represent.

Things change so quickly in football that it's important to achieve as much as you can, when you can. There won't be much "Project Brighton" on here if we start next season with a home defeat, a draw and a couple of unlucky losses.

If he does go, though, the good news is that Tony Bloom is one of the most successful football punters on the planet. I'd guess he understands as much about the essential nature of the game as any chairman in the business, and the judgement and instincts that led him to Gus are likely to serve him well in the search for a replacement.

Look, I absolutely love Gus (but not in a gay way!) and what he's done for us in the last couple of years.

But, look at the broader picture; he led us to the League One title last year, and this year, took us to 10th in the Championship (and for both of thse achievements, I will always respect him, and be immensely grateful).

However, why would any Premiership club think that Gus was the man for them on the basis of his record with us so far?

Does his record with us over the last two years really qualify him to manage Villa, Norwich, or any other Premier team? I just don't see it.

Good point .. probably only a coincidence but adds much more relevance to the fact that Gus said he wouldn't hold Vicente to the 1 year option we have on him ... wonder if that's reversible or it's been formalised?

Genuine question, what is with the dislike for Lambert on here?

I assume it's mostly down to his "stealing" Croft and Bennett from us. I mean, look at what it did to us, promotion at a canter followed by top half of the table finish. Disaster. All thanks to him.

I know some are pissed off with Gus not stating his future categorically to Brighton but I would rather him keep his counsel than telling the world that he has no intention of leaving and is committed blah blah blah and then upping sticks and mincing off to some other club
We are the only constant in this club
Boards, managers, players come and go. I love Gus and would love to see him stay and grow and become as good as he could be - but if he feels that it is not happening quick enough then so be it.
Fortunately as many have said on here we have a chairman who I belive has the greater good of this club at heart.

Poyet has always said that he would go to the best available job in the PL WHEN HE IS READY. And that could be with us.

Didn't he 'steal' them by buying them in the normal way that most football teams do? (I say most as teams like Portsmouth, Rangers and others have 'bought' players without actually paying for them)

Am I the only one who isn't concerned about managers coming and going. Sure it pisses everyone off but that is modern day Football unfortunatley. I'm sure Gus will be here next season and I seriously hope he is but for me the only guy at the Albion that matters 100% is Tony Bloom.

As long as he is here, we will be ok.

err....this.

Apparently,I have heard from Norwich mate that Lambert has not actually gone. He is just angry at the board. He is talking to the Norwich board today. Ironically the manager of Nantes resigned today.Nantes are the French Canaries.

excellent post, totally realistic imho.

Us fans were there before and we'll still be here, football employees come and go.

If Gus is thinking about this, he'd be aware that if he was to fall into the 75% chance he won't get promoted next season, 1 year from now he could well be in exactly the same position without the PL job offers.

right now he's hot and in demand. next year who knows? these PL opportunities are not guaranteed indefinitely. He'd be crazy to not give it serious consideration.

Money where mouth is? Loser pays £20 to their designated charity if Poyet does(you)/doesn't(me) go to either Norwich or Swansea?

Don't think you can have read past the first line. I'm inclined to think he will stay, but only because someone else will get there first. Would happily take the bet if he got a proper offer from either of those, since your suggestion was that he wouldn't consider it "in a million years", which is the bit I think is blinkered. Not that there's anything wrong with that when you're a fan, it's just that it can lead to bitter disappointment.

i think it is easier than Liverpool, expectations are so low in Villa that he'll get time, mid table will be an improvement. Rodgers won't get that luxury

Certainly we didn't want to sell Bennett, and he was not in anyway available for transfer or advertised as available for sale. Norwich came in and 'stole him away' with an unwelcome approach ( from the albions perpective ) and whispers of a big salary in his ear.
