No one really really cares? Bit of a sweeping generalisation. I personally think this flag business and having a cheap plastic flag or a JJB sports flag hangning from the window is a bit common.
Besides, the big hype for the England endeavours in the World Cup or European Championships is always a little fruitless, no?

yeah it is shit and can be common , but if the public do it for one then why not the other ? It has to be because they dont really care. Yes be nice to win but lose and it will all get forgotten about by sun am. Not like football which hurts for ages

I think what you really mean is the retailers got caught out - with low expectations going into the WC none of the shops bothered with a big push to sell the flags.
Additionally I think we the fans have been caught out and I for one still don't really believe what has happened.

I think there will be a great deal of interest and certainly there are/have been a large proportion of (solely) football fans who have started to watch it after the heroic performances against France and Australia.
Football is the number one sport of the country and always will be, but there is a place for Rugby. Argentina is another example of a country that lives and breaths football, but there is a growing interest in rugby over there.
It won't be forgotten here if we lose and I suspect that will be the case for many thousands who play rugby, watch rugby regularly or just simply love the game.
I think the interest will continue to grow and it is certainly beginning to move away from the 'Upper Class Twit' stigma, now that it is professional and you are beginning to get professionals from all walks of life.
There is no shame in being inferior, popularity wise, to football.

I suppose (wrongly) the George Cross has become associated with aggressive behaviour by football fans and chavs. Maybe it is because historicaly (spel) the English Army would carry that across the battlefield. When enemies saw that standard being carried they shit themselves cos they knew we would win, which is exactly why we should be displaying it at the Rugby.

I know, I wore a Rugby shirt for the first game against SA and I have refused to wear one since ! Rest assured I won't be wearing one tommorrow !

this has nothing to do with not caring, and everything to do with retailers having the reasonable expectation that England would go out with a damp squib in the 2nd round.
