I lobbied my local MP and Education Minister David Miliband (he supports Sunderland).
This is the reply I got back from his office just now:

Dear Nic

Thank you for your email to David Miliband.

Glad to see that you follow Sunderland as well.

Mr Miliband has written to John Prescott, expressing your concerns about the future of B&HA. Mr Miliband has asked Mr Prescott to consider your views as part of the consultation exercise and we well contact you again when we
receive a reply.

Best wishes

All these important people on side.

Now who lives in Kent and would like to lobby Ann Widdecombe?

I'm sure she'd love to help us out :lolol:

He's a bit wet but seems to be a genuine football supporter.
My wife often gets us free tickets to the Stadium of Shite and whenever we have been there he has been sitting a few rows in front shouting his head off for Sunderland.
Of course that could mean he is in need of psychiatric treatment!

Just heard that Miliband will be at the Stadium of Shite tomorrow ... my sig other is going (I'm at Grimsby!) and says she will chat him up and tell him to keep at it .... think she might be getting carried away but she does sort of know him!

Respect On the Left Wing, offering your significant other to a Labour minister is just the kind of far-sighted sacrifice needed to win this vital campaign.

I'll have a think now about which Labour minister I can honey-trap with my girlfriend. Might have to be David Blunkett.

My local MP is a Labour MP and I have emailed him and had a reply.

Thank you for your email.

I sent a copy of your email to the Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott MP to ask for his comments. I will let you know when I hear from him.

Yours sincerely,

Barry Sheerman MP

Good bit by David Lacey in todays Guardian, concluding

"If he (JP) counts the votes in Brighton and Hove, he may yet feel inclined to do his bit."

Lets hope so.

Certainly a strictly applied franchise system might have spared Brighton & Hove Albion the attentions of Bill Archer, a former Crown Paints employee from Blackburn under whose chairmanship the Goldstone Ground, the club's home for 95 years, was sold to developers.

Since their exile to Gillingham, Albion have roughed it at the little Withdean Stadium fortified by expectations of moving to a downland site at Falmer, a couple of miles east of the city. But this scheme has now been rejected by a local planning inspector, leaving the club to face trying to return to and stay in the Nationwide First Division with a ground capacity of under 7,000.

Everything depends on John Prescott overruling the inspector and giving Albion the go-ahead. Clearly the deputy prime minister is about to enjoy as popular a Brighton connection as Max Miller, or else share the reputation of the 1930s trunk murderer.

Prescott's parliamentary colleagues on the Football Group had the Brightons, Brentfords, Burys and Burnleys in mind when they pleaded for a fairer redistribution of the TV money. If he counts the votes in Brighton and Hove, he may yet feel inclined to do his bit.
