Kuipers

Yep. I know about 15 who will return the day Kuipers either leaves or gets dropped. All were regulars until Wilkins made Kuipers number 1. All would return if he was replaced.

Just out of interest, did they stay away when he was first choice under Peter Taylor and we were WINNING our second title in a row?

And thinking about it, the second half of the season before when he was first choice under Micky Adams?

Thats because he's pony mate.

New keeper needed, that'll bring the crowds back. Well, a lot of them anyway.

That presumes that most of our defeats our down to him.

If you believe that you have been watching our matches blindfolded. Your comments are quite the most ridiculous I have read on here for a very long time.

For whatever reasons some people think he can do no wrong and some think he can do no right. The truth is, of course, that he is a League One keeper and in common with most of the rest of the players he will do good things and he will make the occasional mistake.

The same could be said of Henderson. He had different strengths and weaknesses to FDM but so what? But inconsistency is what we should expect of anyone playing at our level. Significantly better players won't want to be playing for us and even if they did, we are currently unlikely to be able to afford them.

I also think keepers are over-criticised anyway. FDM makes one or two mistakes in a game and he gets slated, marked 5/10 or whatever. Other players can make far more mistakes in a game and get much less criticism. From listening to some around me, and reading comments on here, there is a frightening lack of knowledge of the technique of goalkeeping.

Someone is screaming for him to hoof the ball upfield a second after getting it at exactly the same time as someone else is giving him abuse for not rolling it out to the nearest defender. The positioning of our players AND the opposition seem to be irrelevant.

Ah thanks for that.

I am guessing it was you interviewed in the Sports Argus who put Kuipers down as a duffer to play for the club and banged on about the apologising to McGhee if you were chairman for the day?

Yeah it was!!!! It was quite out of date though - cant even remember doing the questionairre, but the important bits were still true.

IMO, Kuipers never looks for the opportunity of a quick counter-attack.

Roberts and Henderson did.

Also, IMO, Kuipers doesn't command his area nor instruct his defence. All he ever shouts is "Away, away". That's not really very constructive.

He may be a good shot-stopper, but there is much more required to be a good goal-keeper than that.

I agree, I think in the last few years Keepers starting counter attacks is key to winning.

However a central midfielder is more important at the moment.

I think he does look to start a quick counter attack but it's almost impossible when your team-mates aren't looking too.....

Kuipers isn't the keeper he was three or four seasons ago (and please don't try and persuade me otherwise), but given that we have no other options, he'll do for now.

Whether you think he's a flapping, flouncing, clown-footed show pony, or the nearest thing to Gordon Banks (the truth is somewhere inbetween), to say fans are staying away entirely because of him is laughable.
